Introduction Harmony Gold Mine is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Unified Communications & Network Services Second Level Support Manager to design, implement, and manage enterprise telephony, IP Telephony (IPT), video conferencing, and network infrastructure within a critical mining environment. Operating primarily within a surface office environment with frequent field exposure (40:60 field to office ratio), the successful candidate will provide hands-on leadership to ensure high availability, security, and continuous uptime for mission-critical IT and OT networks. The role involves high-volume workloads and severe time constraints where decision consequences are critical, demanding an absolute commitment to GT Governance frameworks and the Mine Health and Safety Act to achieve zero harm. Minimum Requirements To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria: Education: Diploma in a relevant field (NQF 5). A Tertiary Qualification (NQF 6) in a relevant field is a strong advantage. Experience: 10–15 years of network engineering experience, with at least 5 years specifically in mining or industrial sectors. Network & Hardware Expertise: Deep, advanced experience in routing protocols, switching, firewall configuration, VPNs, VLAN design, IP addressing schemes, and wireless networks in rugged environments, using hardware from vendors like Cisco, HPE, or similar. Unified Communications Technical Depth: Strong knowledge of QoS and network design for unified communications; extensive experience with VoIP protocols (SIP, H.323); and advanced proficiency in configuring telephony hardware, IP phones, video conferencing endpoints, and managing PSTN/SIP trunking. Certifications Required: ITIL Foundation Certificate AND a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP Enterprise or Security) or Aruba Certified Network Professional (ACNP) certificate. Advantageous Certifications/Experience: Experience with industrial network security frameworks; knowledge of Operational Technology (OT) network environments; Certified SCADA Security Architect (CSSA); Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); Microsoft Teams Voice Engineer Expert; Audiocodes Certified Associate/Professional (ACA/ACP); Zoom Rooms Deployment or Polycom Solutions certifications. Job Description Summary The Unified Communications & Network Services Second Level Support Manager will lead and secure Harmony's enterprise communication and network infrastructure landscape. Key accountabilities include: Telephony & IPT Infrastructure Management: Design, deploy, and support enterprise telephony, IPT solutions, and video conferencing platforms (Cisco Webex, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Poly); optimize voice and video network quality through QoS and bandwidth management; and maintain robust disaster recovery procedures. Network Design & Security Enforcement: Lead the deployment and maintenance of the mining site’s LAN, WAN, wireless, and firewall infrastructure across both IT and OT environments, enforcing strict network security policies aligned with mining industry standards like IEC 62443. Operations & Cross-Disciplinary Integration: Coordinate with OT, IT, and engineering teams to integrate network solutions supporting mining automation and control systems, ensuring minimal downtime in a mission-critical 24/7 environment. Vendor & Lifecycle Management: Manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers, overseeing hardware/software lifecycles, service level updates, and regular patch management.
