Job Summary
Position Overview:
The Store Supervisor is responsible for the overall supervision, physical control, and management of store operations and stock required for daily plant operations and collection routes.
This includes overseeing stock receiving, maintaining accurate stock counts, managing RUCs, wheelie bins, and consumables, and ensuring that stock is correctly prepared and staged for collection and loading according to route and operational requirements.
The Store Supervisor is responsible for maintaining stock discipline on site, supervising store personnel, and ensuring all store processes are executed correctly.
Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a store, warehouse, or logistics environment
- Minimum 2+years’ experience in a supervisory or team leadership role within stores, warehouse, or operations
- Experience in stock control, inventory management, and stock counting procedures
- Experience handling containers, bins, or operational consumables advantageous
- Experience working in waste management, recycling, logistics, or an industrial environment (advantageous)
- Experience coordinating stock preparation for operational routes or dispatch activities
- Exposure to handling hazardous materials or healthcare risk waste (advantageous)
- Experience supervising store personnel, allocating tasks, and maintaining stock discipline
Essential Job Functions:
Staff Supervision & Team Leadership
The Store Supervisor is responsible for managing store personnel, including:
- Allocating daily tasks and monitoring productivity
- Providing training and guidance to staff
- Ensuring staff follow operational and safety procedures
- Monitoring staff performance and addressing issues where necessary
- Maintaining discipline and accountability within the store environment
Store Supervision & Management
The Store Supervisor is responsible for managing and supervising all store operations, including:
- Supervising daily store and stock control activities
- Managing and allocating tasks to store personnel
- Ensuring proper execution of stock control procedures
- Monitoring staff productivity and adherence to procedures
- Ensuring compliance with operational, safety, and company policies
- Reporting operational issues, shortages, or risks to the Logistics Manager
Stock Receiving & Control
The Store Supervisor oversees all stock receiving activities, including:
- Supervising stock deliveries and verifying physical stock received
- Ensuring stock matches delivery notes or instructions
- Investigating and reporting shortages, damages, or discrepancies
- Ensuring all received stock is placed in the correct storage areas
- Ensuring accurate stock records are maintained
Stock Counting & Stock Management
- Supervising regular stock counts (daily / weekly as instructed)
- Ensuring accurate visibility of:
- RUCs
- Wheelie bins
- Consumables
- Managing clean vs dirty container separation
- Implementing controls to prevent stock losses
- Investigating stock discrepancies
- Reporting low stock levels and risks before shortages occur
Stock Preparation & Staging
The Store Supervisor ensures stock is correctly prepared for operations and logistics, including:
- Supervising preparation of RUCs, wheelie bins, and consumables according to
- Route sheets
- Operational requirements
- Logistics Manager planning
- Truck loading
- Internal plant use
Housekeeping & Store Discipline
The Store Supervisor must ensure a clean and controlled store environment by:
- Ensuring walkways and access areas are clear
- Preventing clutter, mixed stock, or uncontrolled stacking
- Ensuring proper storage and safe handling practices
- Maintaining a safe working environment at all times
Minimum Requirements
- Site induction and SOP training (mandatory)
- Matric
- Certificate or Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Warehouse Management, or Inventory Management (advantageous)
- Health & Safety training (advantageous)
- Reliable and punctual.
- Safety-conscious and responsible.
- Able to work under pressure and in high-risk environments.
