Job Summary
Introduction Harmony Gold Mine is looking for a deeply technical and hands-on leader to step into the role of Network Services Second Level Support Manager. This essential position is accountable for the end-to-end design, implementation, and management of robust, secure, and scalable network infrastructures across both IT and OT environments. Tasked with keeping critical mining operations highly available and secure, the successful candidate will align all network architecture to corporate standards, comply with industry regulatory frameworks, and maintain network integrity within a 24/7 mission-critical setting. Minimum Requirements Applicants must satisfy the following criteria to be considered: Education: Diploma in a relevant field (NQF 5). Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP Enterprise or Security) OR Aruba Certified Network Professional (ACNP). Experience: 10–15 years of network engineering experience, with at least 5 years specifically within the mining or industrial sectors. Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of the entire network landscape, including VLAN design, IP addressing schemes, routing protocols, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless technologies in rugged environments. Hands-on experience with hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, HPE, or similar is required. Frameworks & Monitoring: Proven experience with industrial network security frameworks and high proficiency in network monitoring tools, troubleshooting methodologies, and performance tuning. Safety & Compliance: Demonstrated commitment to safety practices in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act. Advantageous: A Tertiary Qualification at NQF 6 level, direct experience in the Mining Industry, Operational Technology (OT) network experience, or certifications such as Certified SCADA Security Architect (CSSA), ITIL Foundation, and CISSP. Job Description Summary The Network Services Second Level Support Manager oversees the operational stability, architecture, and governance of the mining site's network. Key responsibilities include: Infrastructure Design & Management: Leading the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex LAN, WAN, wireless, routing, switching, and firewall setups to ensure minimal operational downtime. IT/OT Integration: Coordinating with OT, IT, and engineering management teams to merge network solutions that successfully support mining automation and control systems. Security & Governance: Enforcing network security policies and compliance aligned with mining industry standards (e.g., IEC 62443), while adhering strictly to GT policies and the broader GT Governance Framework. Vendor & Lifecycle Management: Interfacing with external vendors and contractors for upgrades and deployments, managing network hardware/software patch lifecycles, and sustaining updated standard operating procedures (SOPs). Financial Oversight: Managing and reviewing the annual budget within the area of responsibility, alongside monthly monitoring to ensure financial targets are met. Team Leadership & Mentorship: Fostering a continuous improvement culture by mentoring junior network engineers and steering cross-disciplinary collaborations.
