HR OFFICER

Location: Head Office, with travel to company sites as required

CTC: R50,000 per month

POSITION SUMMARY
The HR Officer will provide comprehensive HR support across the organisation, with a strong focus on employee relations, industrial relations and HR administration.
The role will support approximately 150 employees and will work closely with the HR Manager and broader HR team to ensure effective implementation of HR policies, procedures and processes.
A key component of the position will be the management and resolution of employee relations matters, including disciplinary processes, grievances, CCMA matters, bargaining council matters and union-related engagements.
Experience within a manufacturing environment, together with practical knowledge of the MEIBC, will be highly advantageous.
The successful candidate must be confident dealing with employees and management at all levels and be able to manage sensitive and potentially contentious HR matters professionally and in accordance with applicable labour legislation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Relations & Industrial Relations
Manage and provide guidance on employee relations and industrial relations matters.
Facilitate and manage disciplinary processes in accordance with company policy and labour legislation.
Handle employee grievances and ensure appropriate investigation, documentation and resolution.
Provide guidance to management on disciplinary procedures, grievances and other employee relations matters.
Assist with preparation for and representation at CCMA proceedings.
Manage matters involving the relevant bargaining council, including MEIBC-related matters.
Liaise with trade unions and employee representatives where required.
Participate in union engagements and negotiations as required.
Investigate employee complaints, disputes and workplace incidents.
Ensure accurate and confidential records are maintained for all employee relations matters.
Identify potential employee relations risks and escalate appropriately to the HR Manager.
Ensure HR practices are consistently applied across the organisation and sites.
HR Administration
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR documentation.
Manage employee files and ensure required documentation is maintained.
Prepare employment-related documentation, correspondence and HR reports.
Assist with onboarding and employee administration.
Process and maintain HR documentation relating to employee movements, leave, disciplinary matters and other employment changes.
Ensure HR records and processes comply with company policies and applicable legislation.
Provide HR administrative support to the HR Manager and broader HR team.
Maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive employee information.
HR Policy & Compliance
Implement and maintain HR policies and procedures.
Ensure consistent application of company HR policies.
Provide guidance to employees and managers regarding HR policies and procedures.
Keep up to date with relevant South African labour legislation and industrial relations requirements.
Assist the HR Manager in identifying and addressing potential labour-law and employee-relations risks.
Site Support
Provide HR support to company sites as required.
Travel to sites when necessary to deal with employee relations, disciplinary matters, grievances and other HR requirements.
Maintain consistent HR practices across Head Office and operational sites.
Develop effective working relationships with site management and employees.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
HR Diploma or Degree.
3--5 years' relevant HR experience.
Strong practical experience in employee relations and industrial relations.
Proven experience handling disciplinary hearings and grievance procedures.
Practical experience dealing with CCMA matters.
Experience working with a bargaining council; MEIBC experience will be highly advantageous.
Experience dealing with trade unions and employee representatives.
Previous experience within a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Sound knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR practices.
Strong HR administration experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong documentation and report-writing ability.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
Ability and willingness to travel to company sites when required.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will be an experienced HR professional who is strong on employee and industrial relations rather than purely HR administration.
They will have practical experience managing disciplinary and grievance processes, dealing with CCMA and bargaining council matters, and engaging with unions and employee representatives.
Experience in a manufacturing environment will be advantageous, particularly where the candidate has exposure to the MEIBC and understands the practical realities of a unionised workforce.
The successful candidate should be confident, professional and able to deal objectively with difficult employee and management matters while maintaining appropriate HR governance and confidentiality.
