Junior Financial Manager
Location: Century City, Cape Town
Type: Full-time | In-office
About the Role
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented, motivated and commercially minded Junior Financial Manager to join their finance team in Century City.
This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with a solid grounding in accounting principles who is ready to take the next step in their career and gain greater exposure to management accounts, financial reporting and broader finance management responsibilities.
The successful candidate will occupy a varied role, balancing higher-level responsibilities such as preparing management accounts and financial analysis with hands-on financial processing when required. The position offers the opportunity to develop into a more senior finance management role within a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Management Accounts & Financial Reporting
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts, including:
Income statements
Balance sheets
Cash flow statements
Prepare supporting schedules and financial reconciliations.
Perform budget-versus-actual variance analysis and highlight key movements for management review.
Assist with month-end and year-end .financial close processes.
Prepare and process journals, accruals and prepayments.
Assist with the preparation of financial reports and management presentations.
Provide accurate financial information and analysis to support business decision-making
General Financial Processing
Process day-to-day financial transactions accurately and timeously.
Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
Perform regular bank reconciliations.
Capture and accurately code invoices, payments and receipts on the accounting system.
Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations where required.
Maintain accurate, complete and up-to-date financial records.
Ensure finance documentation and filing systems are properly maintained.
Compliance & Financial Controls
Ensure financial transactions are processed in accordance with company policies and internal controls.
Apply relevant accounting principles and standards to financial processing and reporting.
Assist with the preparation of information and supporting documentation for:
VAT and tax submissions
Statutory requirements
Internal and external audits
Identify discrepancies, irregularities and potential control weaknesses and escalate these appropriately.
Assist with identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and efficiencies.
Finance Support & Collaboration
Work closely with the Financial Manager / Head of Finance to ensure the smooth running of the finance function.
Liaise with other departments regarding financial information, queries and reporting requirements.
Respond to internal finance-related queries professionally and efficiently.
Assist with ad hoc financial analysis, reporting and finance projects.
Support the wider finance team with additional responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
Relevant degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
A BCom Accounting or equivalent qualification would be advantageous.
Studying towards or holding a professional finance qualification such as SAIPA, CIMA, ACCA or CA(SA) would be advantageous.
Experience
1--3 years' relevant experience within an accounting or finance environment.
Exposure to the preparation of management accounts is preferred.
Practical experience in general financial processing, including:
Accounts payable
Accounts receivable
Bank reconciliations
Journals
Accruals and prepayments
Exposure to month-end and year-end processes would be advantageous.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage, Xero, Pastel, QuickBooks or similar.
Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to work confidently with financial data, reporting and analysis.
Strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
Good understanding of financial controls and accounting processes.
Ability to work accurately with large volumes of financial information.
