AI Specialist | South Africa | 2.5-Month Contract

This is an immediate-start contract for a specialist who can move confidently from data and model development through to deployment, validation and ongoing optimisation.

As an AI Specialist, you will work at the intersection of computer science, mathematics and data analytics, developing intelligent solutions that automate processes, improve decision-making and solve complex problems. You will be expected to take a practical, hands-on approach to machine learning and deep learning while collaborating closely with technical and business stakeholders.

The environment is technology-driven and requires someone comfortable working at pace within a short-term delivery window. The successful candidate will combine strong technical depth with sound analytical thinking and an understanding of the responsible application of AI.

What You'll Do

• Design, build and optimise machine learning and deep learning models.

• Analyse large datasets, assess data quality and prepare data for model training.

• Develop and refine algorithms for pattern recognition, prediction and automated decision-making.

• Collaborate with software engineers and other technical specialists to integrate AI models into production systems.

• Test and validate models, evaluating accuracy, performance and scalability.

• Monitor deployed AI systems and identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.

• Research emerging AI technologies, methodologies and techniques relevant to the project.

• Apply appropriate AI ethics, fairness, transparency and regulatory considerations throughout the development lifecycle.

What You Bring

• A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related discipline.

• An advanced qualification would be advantageous where relevant to the complexity of the work.

• Strong programming capability, particularly in Python, with exposure to R and/or Java.

• Practical experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.

• Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, neural networks and data structures.

• Experience working with cloud platforms and production technology environments.

• Strong analytical capability and the ability to derive meaningful insights from complex datasets.

• Experience collaborating with data engineers, software developers, product teams and other cross-functional stakeholders.

• An understanding of model testing, validation, monitoring and optimisation.

• Awareness of responsible AI principles, including fairness, transparency and regulatory considerations.

• Availability to start immediately and commit to the full 2.5-month contract.
