Job Description
The Reconciliation Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data by performing detailed reconciliations across multiple accounts and systems. This role involves identifying discrepancies, investigating anomalies, and resolving issues in a timely manner to support the organisation’s financial reporting and compliance requirements. The specialist works closely with various departments to facilitate data accuracy and maintain robust controls within the reconciliation process.
Job Duties
- Financial and structural reconciliation: hierarchy checks.
- Perform daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and other financial records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies between internal records and external statements promptly and effectively.
- Maintain and update reconciliation schedules and documentation in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including finance, operations and audit, to obtain necessary information and resolve reconciliation issues.
- Identify process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of reconciliation activities.
- Prepare detailed reports on reconciliation status, issues identified and actions taken for management review.
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, internal controls and company policies throughout the reconciliation process.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities by providing accurate reconciliation data and analysis.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information and adhere to data protection standards.
Required Qualifications
- A recognised qualification in finance, accounting or a related field.
- Proven experience in financial reconciliation within the banking or finance sector.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
- Proficiency in using financial software and enterprise resource planning systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in work.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
Education
- A minimum of a National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is essential.
Experience
- At least three years’ experience in financial reconciliation, preferably within banking or financial services.
- Experience working with complex financial data and multiple accounting systems.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and rectify discrepancies efficiently.
Knowledge and Skills
- Test mgmt,SQL, defect mgmt.
- Comprehensive knowledge of reconciliation processes and financial regulations.
- Strong numerical aptitude and proficiency with spreadsheets and reconciliation software.
- Good organisational and time management abilities.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership of a professional accounting body or relevant certification is advantageous.
- Experience in the use of specific banking software or systems relevant to the organisation.
- Previous involvement in audit preparation or support roles.
Working Conditions
