Executive Housekeeper

This role forms part of the Rooms Division at The Bay Hotel, within Village n Life, based in Camps Bay, Cape Town.

THE ROLE

As Executive Housekeeper, you’ll take full responsibility for the housekeeping department at The Bay Hotel, ensuring that guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house facilities consistently meet the hotel's standards of cleanliness, presentation and guest comfort.

We’re looking for an experienced hotel housekeeping professional who can lead a team, manage a busy operation and maintain high standards while controlling costs and productivity.

Reporting to the Rooms Division Manager, you’ll oversee daily housekeeping operations, manage staffing and departmental resources and work closely with Front Office and Maintenance to ensure rooms are ready on time and the hotel is consistently well presented.

This is a hands-on management role requiring strong leadership, sound operational judgement and proven hotel housekeeping experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Take full responsibility for housekeeping operations, departmental standards and performance

Lead, train and develop the housekeeping team, ensuring accountability and consistent performance

Plan staffing, duty rosters and room allocations according to occupancy, arrivals and departures

Oversee cleanliness and presentation standards across guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house facilities

Conduct regular room inspections and ensure corrective action where standards are not met

Coordinate with Front Office to ensure accurate room status reporting and timely room readiness

Work with Maintenance to identify and resolve defects, repairs and preventative maintenance requirements

Manage linen, laundry, guest amenities, cleaning supplies, equipment and departmental stock

Monitor labour costs, overtime, productivity and departmental expenditure against budget

Oversee deep-cleaning schedules and the ongoing care of furniture, fittings and hotel assets

Manage staff attendance, performance, training and disciplinary matters in accordance with company procedures

Respond to guest feedback and housekeeping-related complaints promptly and professionally

Ensure compliance with hygiene, health and safety requirements

Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, housekeeping standards and team performance

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Matric or equivalent

Minimum 5 years’ housekeeping experience in a hotel environment, including at least 2 years in a management or senior supervisory position

Previous hotel housekeeping experience is essential; candidates without relevant hotel experience will not be considered

Proven ability to lead and manage housekeeping teams in a busy hotel

Strong knowledge of room inspections, linen management, stock control and housekeeping quality standards

Experience in workforce planning, staff scheduling, labour productivity and departmental cost control

Strong leadership skills, including staff training, coaching, performance management and employee relations

Excellent organisational skills with the ability to priorities, delegate and meet operational deadlines

A hands-on management approach with strong attention to detail and high presentation standards

Good communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively across hotel departments

Computer literacy and familiarity with hotel property management systems

Relevant hospitality qualification advantageous

Previous experience as an Executive Housekeeper or Assistant Executive Housekeeper advantageous

Willingness to work operational shifts, including weekends and public holidays
