Job Summary
A Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including trucks, buses, construction machinery, generators, and agricultural equipment. The role requires strong mechanical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on diesel engines and related systems.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults.
- Repair or replace defective engine components, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and suspension parts.
- Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance checks.
- Use diagnostic tools and computerized testing equipment to identify issues.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company procedures.
- Test vehicles and equipment after repairs to verify proper operation.
- Order and manage spare parts and workshop materials when required.
- Respond to breakdowns and emergency repair requests.
Qualifications and Experience
- Trade certification or qualification in Diesel Mechanics.
- Proven experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read technical manuals and schematics.
- Valid driver's license (commercial/heavy vehicle license preferred).
- Experience with diagnostic software and tools.
