Large-Scale Sugar Manufacturing & Co-Generation Operation | Uganda
An exceptional senior engineering opportunity for an accomplished Electrical Engineering professional with major industrial maintenance experience.
Our client is a large, established and highly integrated sugar manufacturing and agro-industrial operation in Uganda, supported by a substantial sugar milling and processing facility and a major bagasse-based power co-generation operation.
We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Electrical Engineering Manager to provide senior leadership across the factory's electrical engineering and maintenance function.
This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering leadership appointment where electrical maintenance, plant reliability, breakdown reduction and continuous improvement will be central to the role.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The successful candidate will take responsibility for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the factory's complete electrical infrastructure, with particular emphasis on:

High-Voltage & Low-Voltage Systems
Industrial Power Distribution
Motors, MCCs, Switchgear & Transformers
Electrical Fault-Finding & Breakdown Management
Preventative & Predictive Maintenance
Co-Generation & Power Generation
Factory Shutdowns & Off-Crop Maintenance
Electrical Projects & Plant Upgrades
Maintenance Planning & CMMS
Electrical Safety & Compliance
Engineering Team Leadership
Reliability Improvement & Cost Optimisation
This is not a purely administrative management role. The successful candidate must be a technically credible engineering leader who is comfortable being directly involved in complex electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, reliability improvement and major plant interventions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Electrical Engineering Manager will:
Lead the complete electrical engineering and maintenance function.
Drive electrical plant availability and reliability.
Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
Lead major electrical breakdown investigations and Root Cause Failure Analysis.
Oversee HT/LT systems, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, MCCs, motors, VFDs and industrial electrical infrastructure.
Provide electrical engineering support across the sugar milling and processing plant.
Support the reliable operation of the bagasse-based co-generation and power-generation systems.
Lead annual off-crop maintenance programmes and major factory shutdowns.
Manage electrical engineering projects, plant upgrades and capital expenditure.
Develop critical spares strategies and maintenance plans.
Analyse electrical-related production losses and implement corrective action.
Lead, mentor and develop a large electrical engineering and maintenance team.
Drive world-class electrical safety, LOTO and permit-to-work standards.
Establish and monitor engineering KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, equipment availability and preventative maintenance compliance.
Identify opportunities to reduce downtime, maintenance costs and energy losses.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering professional with:
Essential:
Degree / BTech in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
10+ years' relevant industrial electrical engineering experience.
Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior electrical engineering / maintenance management position.
Strong industrial electrical maintenance background.
Extensive experience with HT/LT systems, MCCs, motors, transformers, switchgear and electrical protection.
Proven experience managing electrical breakdowns and plant reliability.
Strong preventative and predictive maintenance experience.
Proven experience leading engineering teams.
Highly advantageous:
Sugar manufacturing / sugar milling experience.
Bagasse-based co-generation experience.
Power-generation / turbine-generator experience.
Large-scale continuous-process manufacturing experience.
Major plant shutdown / off-crop maintenance experience.
Previous East African industrial experience.
INTERNATIONAL CANDIDATES WELCOME
Indian Nationals with strong and demonstrable East African industrial experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
Candidates who have previously worked successfully in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia or other East African industrial environments will be viewed favourably.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working within a multicultural, technically demanding African industrial environment and should possess the leadership maturity required to manage and develop a diverse engineering workforce.

REMUNERATION
A highly competitive executive remuneration package will be offered, commensurate with qualifications, experience and overall suitability for the position.
The final package will be negotiated with the successful candidate and will reflect the seniority and strategic importance of this appointment.
