Contracts Manager – Large Scale Steel Construction Projects
Based in Malawi
Overview
A leading organisation involved in major construction developments in Malawi is seeking to appoint an experienced and results-driven Contracts Manager to oversee large-scale structural steel building projects from site preparation through to final handover and commissioning.
This senior role requires a highly competent construction professional with extensive experience in steel structures, civil works, building services, subcontractor management, and overall project delivery. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Managing large-scale steel construction projects from site establishment to final handover.
Overseeing all civil works, including earthworks, foundations, reinforced concrete structures, and industrial flooring systems.
Managing structural steel fabrication, transportation, erection, roofing, cladding, and associated finishing works.
Coordinating electrical, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and mechanical installations.
Developing and monitoring project programmes and construction schedules.
Managing project budgets, variations, procurement activities, and contractual obligations.
Leading and coordinating subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and construction teams.
Ensuring compliance with Malawian construction regulations, health and safety legislation, and industry standards.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Building Science, or a related field.
Minimum 10–15 years' proven experience managing large-scale construction projects.
Demonstrable experience in structural steel buildings and steel erection projects from inception through to completion.
Extensive knowledge of steel fabrication processes, erection methodologies, and applicable structural steel specifications and standards.
Proven experience managing multidisciplinary subcontractors and large construction workforces.
Experience working within Southern Africa, with previous experience in Malawi or neighbouring countries being advantageous.

Structural steel specifications and standards, fabrication quality requirements, erection procedures, crane operations, lifting plans, concrete works, industrial floor construction, roofing and cladding systems, electrical installations, plumbing and drainage systems, fire protection systems, occupational health and safety requirements, construction contracts, project scheduling, cost control, quality management and commissioning procedures.

An attractive package paid in ZA Rands (Nett) will be offered and will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and proven performance.
