JOB DESCRIPTION
The Production Manager is responsible for assisting and supporting the Factory Manager in the day-to-day running of one of the company's sophisticated scrap metal branches. The Production Manager must ensure that all scrap metal is purchased correctly, that stock is reconciled, that fraud and theft are mitigated, and that all legislative requirements are adhered to. The Production Manager must lead and manage the branch's staff in all matters, including ensuring that high standards of work are maintained, that staff are adhering to instructions and procedures, maintaining staff attendance and timekeeping, and working with HR on disciplinary matters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manage the branch's operations and staff
· Ensure scrap metal is purchased at the correct grade and weight, and that all purchase and dispatch records are accurately maintained and reconciled.
· Ensure full compliance with the Second-Hand Goods Act, including accurate recording of all information required under the Act.
· Manage stock control, inventory accuracy and cash
· Lead the branch staff to meet daily operational and purchasing targets.
· Manage staff discipline, timekeeping and attendance directly - including initiating and running disciplinary processes where required.
· Maintain vigilance against theft, fraud, bribery and dishonesty, and escalate any suspected irregularities immediately to senior management.
· Maintain strong customer relations and resolve customer complaints professionally.
· Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and health & safety regulations.
· Prepare accurate daily, weekly and monthly operational and financial reports for senior management.
· Work closely with senior management and other branch managers to share best practice across sites.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent
· A minimum of 4 years' experience working in a factory environment.
· Experience managing a factory, depot, store or yard with direct accountability for stock, cash and staff is an advantage.
· A demonstrable, verifiable track record of managing staff, including discipline, timekeeping and attendance, with specific examples, is an advantage.
· Strong numeracy and accuracy - comfortable with stock reconciliation, margins and daily/monthly reporting.
· Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
· Clear credit and criminal record - all shortlisted candidates will undergo background, credit, criminal and polygraph verification.
