Job Summary
Our client, a well-established and prominent business operating within the logistics and transport industry, is seeking to employ an experienced Workshop Manager to join their team based in Deal Party, Port Elizabeth.
Requirements
- 5–10 years’ experience in Fleet maintenance and Workshop management
- Proven experience with Heavy vehicles / carriers
- Strong leadership and operational control ability
- Strong working knowledge of Volvo FM 400 6x2 trucks
- Proven experience with Hydraulics (vehicle carrier systems), Brake systems and Suspension systems
- Strong understanding of Vehicle carrier flexibility, structural stress and load distribution and transport requirements
- Diagnose and repair equipment with full understanding of carrier operations
- Trade qualification (Diesel Mechanic or similar) - Advantageous
- Experience in logistics or vehicle transport industry - Advantageous
- Exposure to OEM or dealership environments - Advantageous
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Fleet Maintenance Structure & Control
- Coordinate all truck preventative maintenance and servicing with Billson’s Volvo (OEM support)
- Oversee and manage daily workshop operations
- Oversee and manage internal repairs and maintenance
- Ensure alignment between TAC operations and external service providers
Structural & Equipment Maintenance (Critical Focus)
- Maintain and repair vehicle carrier structures and decks
- Maintain and repair trailers and link systems
- Maintain and repair hydraulic systems (loading mechanisms)
- Maintain and repair body swaps and modifications
- Ensure all repairs maintain structural integrity
- Ensure all repairs support safe vehicle transport
- Ensure all repairs align with operational demands
Preventative Maintenance & Risk Control
- Implement and manage preventative maintenance programmes
- Identify structural weaknesses
- Identify recurring failures
- Reduce breakdowns
- Reduce operational risks
Workshop Staff Management
- Manage and supervise mechanics, technicians, and workshop assistants
- Allocate work and monitor productivity
- Enforce discipline and performance standards
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with road safety regulations
- Ensure compliance with workshop safety standards
- Enforce safe working practices at all times
Parts & Inventory Control
- Manage spare parts inventory
- Manage workshop consumables
- Ensure availability of critical components
- Control costs and minimise waste
Performance Monitoring
- Track vehicle downtime
- Track repair turnaround times
- Track maintenance costs
- Report on fleet condition and workshop performance
Operational Coordination
- Work closely with planners, team leaders, and depot managers
- Ensure fleet readiness aligns with operational requirements
Working Hours & Conditions
- Monday to Friday: 07h00 – 18h00
- Alternative Weeks (Shift Rotation):
- Day Shift: 07h00 – 13h00
- Late Shift: 12h00 – 18h00
- Saturday: 07h00 – To finish
- Company Closure:
- Closed over Easter Weekend
- Skeleton staff over Christmas period
