My client, a luxury beachfront resort in Zanzibar, is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Deputy General Manager | Rooms Division Manager to join its senior management team.

This is a pivotal dual-role appointment for an experienced hospitality professional who can combine strong luxury resort operations with exceptional Rooms Division leadership and sophisticated revenue optimisation.

The successful candidate will support the General Manager in the overall operation of the resort while taking direct responsibility for the Rooms Division, including Front Office, Reservations, Guest Relations and Housekeeping.

This role will suit an accomplished hotelier who is equally comfortable leading people, managing guest experience and analysing commercial performance.

• Forecasting and booking-pace analysis

• Luxury Rooms Division operations

The successful candidate must be able to translate commercial data into practical operational and revenue decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Deputy General Manager

• Support the General Manager in the day-to-day management of the resort.

• Assume operational leadership in the General Manager's absence.

• Drive service excellence, accountability and operational standards.

• Coordinate departmental performance and interdepartmental communication.

• Contribute to business planning, budgeting and strategic decision-making.

Rooms Division

• Take overall responsibility for Front Office, Reservations, Guest Relations and Housekeeping.

• Maintain exceptional accommodation and guest-service standards.

• Drive efficient check-in, check-out and room allocation procedures.

• Ensure effective SOP implementation and operational controls.

• Oversee VIP, repeat and special-occasion guest experiences.

• Drive continuous improvement in guest satisfaction.

Revenue & Yield Management

• Develop and implement effective yield-management strategies.

• Optimise room rates according to demand, seasonality and forecast occupancy.

• Analyse booking pace, pickup, market demand and historical performance.

• Maximise ADR, RevPAR, occupancy and rooms revenue.

• Manage room inventory, restrictions and rate strategies.

• Monitor competitor positioning and distribution channels.

• Analyse OTA and direct-booking performance.

• Maintain rate integrity and channel positioning.

• Assist with forecasting and Rooms Division revenue budgeting.

Leadership & Guest Experience

• Lead, motivate and develop a multicultural Rooms Division team.

• Maintain a visible management presence throughout the resort.

• Champion luxury guest service and effective service recovery.

• Monitor guest feedback and online reputation.

• Develop supervisors and junior managers through coaching and mentoring.

• Maintain strong operational, financial and performance controls.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have:

• A formal qualification in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Tourism Management or a related discipline.

• 5–8 years' senior hotel/resort operational experience, preferably in an upscale, luxury or international environment.

• Proven Rooms Division management experience.

• Previous experience as a Rooms Division Manager, Front Office Manager, Operations Manager, Deputy General Manager or similar senior position.

• Advanced Opera PMS experience – absolutely essential.

• Demonstrable expertise in Yield Management.

• Exceptional knowledge of Rate and Revenue Management.

• Strong understanding of hotel distribution channels and OTAs.

• Proven commercial and financial acumen.

• Experience leading and developing multicultural teams.

ADVANTAGEOUS EXPERIENCE

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Previous experience in Zanzibar, Tanzania, East Africa or a comparable island/resort destination.

• Luxury boutique hotel or resort experience.

• International or expatriate hospitality experience.

• Experience with international tour operators, wholesalers and OTAs.

• Strong understanding of seasonal and destination-driven revenue management.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for a hands-on, commercially minded hotelier with the maturity and leadership capability to operate at Deputy General Manager level.

The successful candidate will be analytical without losing sight of the guest, commercially driven without compromising service standards, and confident enough to take operational ownership in a demanding international resort environment.

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS

Basic Salary: ZAR 45,000 – 50,000 per month | US$ 3000.00 - paid net in US Dollars
Single-status accommodation: Provided
Meals: On duty
Medical Cover: In-country medical cover provided by the company
Work Permit & Visa: Costs fully covered by the company
Annual Leave Flights: Return annual air ticket aligned with leave, covered by the company
Appointment: International expatriate position in Zanzibar

IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE

Opera PMS experience is non-negotiable.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate hands-on Opera PMS experience together with strong practical experience in Yield Management, Rate Management, Revenue Management, forecasting, occupancy optimisation and ADR/RevPAR performance.

Candidates who do not meet these critical requirements will not be considered.
