Senior Bookkeeper | Hospitality | Joburg We are recruiting an experienced SENIOR BOOKKEEPER for an established and growing restaurant group in Johannesburg . This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who understands the fast-paced financial environment of the hospitality industry and is confident managing accounting functions through to Trial Balance. The successful candidate must have previous accounting or bookkeeping experience within restaurants, hotels, hospitality groups or a closely related hospitality environment . This requirement is non-negotiable . Applicants without relevant hospitality accounting experience will unfortunately not be considered. This position requires someone who is accurate, highly organised, deadline-driven and comfortable working with financial information across a busy multi-outlet operation. You should have a strong understanding of bookkeeping principles, reconciliations, creditors, debtors, cash controls, general ledger processing and month-end procedures. Key Responsibilities for Senior Bookkeeper The Senior Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall financial administration of the restaurant group. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Full bookkeeping function up to Trial Balance Processing and maintaining accurate accounting records General ledger processing and reconciliations Preparation of monthly Trial Balance Bank reconciliations and investigation of discrepancies Creditors processing and reconciliations Debtors processing and account management where required Processing supplier invoices, credit notes and payments Reconciling supplier statements against accounting records Monitoring outstanding accounts and following up on discrepancies Processing cashbook transactions Reconciling daily and monthly financial transactions Assisting with month-end financial procedures Maintaining accurate supporting documentation for financial transactions Ensuring expenses are correctly allocated to the appropriate accounts Reviewing financial information for accuracy and identifying irregularities Assisting with restaurant and outlet reconciliations Supporting financial controls across multiple restaurant operations Liaising with restaurant management regarding financial documentation and discrepancies Maintaining organised accounting records and supporting schedules Assisting with information required for management accounts Preparing accounting information and supporting documentation when required Ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and within required deadlines Supporting the finance function with additional bookkeeping and administrative duties as required Senior Bookkeeper - Requirements Proven experience working as a Senior Bookkeeper, Bookkeeper or similar accounting position Hospitality accounting experience is essential and non-negotiable Previous experience within a restaurant group, hospitality group, hotel operation or similar hospitality business is strongly preferred Solid practical experience with the full bookkeeping function up to Trial Balance Strong understanding of general ledger accounting Good experience with bank reconciliations Experience processing and reconciling creditors and suppliers Understanding of debtors and account reconciliation Experience with cashbook processing Good understanding of month-end accounting procedures Ability to identify and investigate accounting discrepancies Strong numerical ability Excellent attention to detail Good computer literacy Experience working with accounting software Strong Excel skills Ability to manage a high volume of financial transactions accurately Ability to work independently and take responsibility for assigned accounting functions Good organisational and time management skills Ability to meet strict reporting and processing deadlines Professional communication skills Ability to work effectively with restaurant managers, suppliers and other operational stakeholders Salary on offer: Approximately ZAR 25,000 net per month ; depending on experience, qualifications and suitability for the position.
