As we continue our journey toward luxury, we are looking for an experienced and people focused Human Resources Practitioner to join our People and Culture team. This is a broad, hands-on HR generalist opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the operation and wants exposure across the full employee lifecycle, recruitment, employee relations, employment equity, employee wellbeing, engagement, culture, compliance and HR administration. The Opportunity Reporting to the HR Manager and working closely with the Director of People and Culture, you will support and coordinate key Human Resources functions across a busy hotel environment. This is an opportunity to: • Develop broad HR generalist experience across the complete employee lifecycle • Work within a dynamic, people intensive hospitality environment • Take ownership of designated HR functions while receiving exposure to broader strategic HR initiatives • Gain practical experience in employee relations and South African labour legislation • Play an active role in Employment Equity, employee wellbeing, engagement and organisational culture • Build relationships with employees and managers across multiple hotel departments • Work closely with experienced People and Culture leadership • Contribute ideas and initiatives that positively influence the employee experience • Play an important role in The President Hotel's continued journey toward luxury What You Will Be Doing Recruitment; Selection and Onboarding • Coordinating the recruitment and selection process from vacancy through to appointment • Drafting and coordinating job advertisements • Screening applications and coordinating interviews with relevant departments • Conducting reference checks, criminal checks and other required background verification • Preparing employment documentation, offer letters and recruitment documentation • Maintaining accurate vacancy records and recruitment trackers • Supporting the hotel's Employment Equity objectives throughout the recruitment process • Coordinating the onboarding of new employees • Ensuring employment contracts and all required onboarding documentation are completed correctly • Coordinating employee induction and introductions to hotel policies, procedures, culture and standards • Assisting with employee access requirements, name tags and related onboarding administration • Monitoring probation periods and ensuring probation reviews are completed timeously Employee Relations • Providing operational HR support to managers and employees on employee relations matters • Assisting with disciplinary, grievance, incapacity and related employee relations processes • Preparing documentation for disciplinary hearings, investigations, consultations and other employee relations matters • Attending disciplinary hearings and maintaining accurate records • Supporting consultations and employee relations meetings where required • Promoting the fair and consistent application of hotel policies and procedures • Supporting the HR Manager and Director of People and Culture in maintaining positive employee relations and workplace harmony Employment Equity and Legislative Compliance • Assisting with the implementation and monitoring of Employment Equity initiatives • Coordinating Employment Equity Committee meetings • Preparing agendas, supporting documentation and meeting minutes • Maintaining accurate Employment Equity records, reports and workforce information • Monitoring progress against Employment Equity objectives and action plans • Promoting diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity within the workplace • Supporting HR compliance with applicable South African labour legislation • Assisting with internal and external HR audits and inspections • Maintaining required labour law notices, records and HR documentation • Assisting with Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report requirements • Maintaining accurate records and documentation relating to foreign national employees • Supporting the ongoing review of HR policies and procedures to ensure legislative compliance Employee Wellbeing and Engagement • Coordinating employee wellness initiatives and annual wellness days • Liaising with wellness providers and external partners • Promoting Employee Assistance Programmes and employee support services • Coordinating wellbeing initiatives focusing on mental, physical and financial wellness • Supporting employee engagement surveys and feedback initiatives • Developing initiatives aimed at strengthening employee engagement and the overall employee experience • Coordinating monthly employee recognition awards, certificates, presentations and communication • Supporting employee appreciation initiatives throughout the year • Assisting with staff gifting and recognition for key employee occasions • Maintaining and regularly updating HR and employee communication notice boards • Supporting internal employee communication and morale building initiatives Culture; Values and CSI • Promoting The President Hotel's culture, service standards and organisational values • Supporting initiatives that strengthen the hotel's employee culture • Encouraging employee participation in engagement and culture initiatives • Assisting with the planning and coordination of the annual year end staff function • Supporting employee events and internal engagement activities • Participating in and coordinating Corporate Social Investment initiatives • Coordinating CSI meetings and related activities • Supporting community engagement initiatives aligned with the hotel's objectives HR Administration and Records • Maintaining accurate and up to date employee files • Processing documentation relating to appointments, transfers, promotions, salary changes and other employee movements • Maintaining accurate electronic and physical HR records • Assisting with HR reporting, statistics and management information • Ensuring HR documentation is appropriately filed, stored and archived • Maintaining organised and accessible HR filing systems • Preparing employee files and documentation for audits and inspections • Ensuring employee information is handled securely and confidentially at all times Who We Want to Meet We are looking for an HR professional who has developed a solid foundation in Human Resources and is now ready to broaden their exposure and take greater ownership within a busy operational environment. You should have: • A National Diploma in Human Resources or a relevant degree • Approximately 2 to 3 years' practical Human Resources experience • Good generalist HR exposure across several areas of the employee lifecycle • Working knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR best practice • Exposure to employee relations processes, including disciplinary and grievance matters • Strong HR administration and record keeping capabilities • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Strong organisational, planning and time management ability • Excellent attention to detail • A high level of discretion and respect for confidentiality • Good interpersonal and relationship building skills • The confidence to interact professionally with employees and managers at different levels • Strong problem solving ability and a practical approach to HR matters • The ability to prioritise and work effectively within a busy environment • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word • Previous hospitality HR experience will be advantageous • Professional grooming and presentation • South African ID or valid South African work authorisation The Person Behind the HR Professional HR in hospitality is not a desk only function.
