Our client is an established South African horticultural and agricultural bioscience company specialising in the development, manufacture and international commercialisation of plant propagation and growth technologies. With an expanding local and international footprint, the company is seeking an entrepreneurial General Manager to help lead the business through its next phase of growth and professionalisation.

This role offers significant scope for increased executive responsibility as the business continues to grow. The individual will report directly to the Managing Director, with whom the incumbent will work closely.

Key Performance Areas:

• Effectively manage the PBR International team

• Drive the implementation and execution of the company’s strategic growth initiatives

• Work closely with the Managing Director to translate strategy into measurable plans, priorities and outcomes

• Oversee and coordinate key business projects and ensure effective execution across the organisation

• Develop and implement systems and processes to enhance efficiency

• Manage and optimise manufacturing, supply chain and operational processes

• Take responsibility for budgets, financial performance, cash flow and cost management

• Analyse financial and operational information and use data to drive sound business decisions

• Contribute to commercial decision-making and the identification of new growth opportunities

• Ensure that appropriate quality and compliance standards are maintained

• Provide regular feedback / reports to the Managing Director regarding strategic and financial matters

• Attend to client complaints and escalate to the Managing Director when appropriate

• Develop the management capability, accountability and performance culture within the business

Requirements:

• A relevant postgraduate qualification will be beneficial

• Proven experience in a related field (Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Chemicals)

• Experience in managing a team

• Strong commercial and financial acumen

• Demonstrated ability to take ownership, make independent decisions and accept accountability

• Strong project management and execution capability

• Strategic thinker with a hands-on, practical management style

• Confident and able to engage constructively with senior leadership, while remaining receptive to feedback

• High level of entrepreneurial aptitude

• Self-starter and results-driven

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Proficient in English and Afrikaans

• Willingness to travel within designated service areas, in South Africa and internationally

• Valid driver’s licence
