Job Description
The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing all financial activities within the organisation, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory requirements, and effective financial planning. This role requires managing financial operations, developing budgets, analysing financial data, and providing strategic advice to support business objectives. The Finance Manager leads the finance team to maintain robust financial controls and supports the organisation’s overall financial health.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports to senior management and stakeholders.
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
- Manage budgeting processes, including forecasting, variance analysis, and cost control measures.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Coordinate the preparation of statutory returns and liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity to ensure adequate funding for operational needs and investments.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Lead and develop the finance team by setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, and promoting professional development.
- Ensure adherence to relevant accounting standards, legislation, and best practises.
- Collaborate with other departments to support organisational goals and improve financial performance.
Required Qualifications
- Professional accounting qualification recognised in South Africa (e.g., Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)), Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA), or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience
- A minimum of five years’ experience in financial management, preferably within an accounting or finance environment.
- Proven experience in preparing financial statements and managing budgeting processes.
- Experience leading a finance team and managing internal controls.
- Familiarity with South African tax regulations and statutory compliance requirements.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and corporate governance.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, particularly spreadsheets.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
- Experience working within a multinational or large corporate environment.
- Knowledge of international financial reporting standards (IFRS).
- Experience with financial modelling and strategic financial planning.
Working Conditions
- The role is office-based within the Johannesburg Metro area, with typical working hours from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday.
- Occasional requirement to work additional hours to meet deadlines or attend meetings.
- Work involves prolonged periods at a computer and using standard office equipment.
- Occasional travel may be required for meetings or training purposes.
