Job Summary
Our client operating in the retail space; viz. buying, selling and loan business; is seeking a customer-focused, detail-oriented, experienced, and results-driven Store Manager to lead its Walmer branch in Port Elizabeth.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management and profitability of the store, ensuring exceptional customer service, effective team leadership, operational excellence, and the achievement of sales, lending, and profitability targets.
This role requires a hands-on retail professional with strong leadership capabilities, sound commercial acumen, and a proven ability to drive performance within a fast-paced retail environment.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate.
- Diploma or qualification in Retail Management, Business Management, Sales, or a related field will be advantageous.
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in retail management.
- Proven experience managing staff, sales targets, and store operations.
- Strong financial and commercial understanding.
- Experience in lending, pawn broking, second-hand retail, or financial services will be advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent customer service and relationship-building abilities.
Responsibilities:
Store Operations Management
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the store to ensure efficiency and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Monitor store performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional store environment.
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory and compliance requirements.
Sales and Business Development
- Drive sales growth across all product categories and services.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase store revenue and profitability.
- Monitor sales performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Promote value-added products and services to maximise revenue generation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers within the local community.
Lending and Financial Services
- Oversee lending operations and ensure responsible lending practices are maintained.
- Monitor loan book performance and collections activities.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant lending and consumer credit regulations.
- Manage risk and minimise losses through effective operational controls.
Stock and Asset Management
- Manage inventory levels and ensure stock accuracy.
- Oversee purchasing, pricing, merchandising, and stock control processes.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of merchandise and pledged goods.
- Monitor stock turnover and implement initiatives to improve sales performance.
- Conduct regular stock audits and reconciliations.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, motivate, and develop the store team to achieve business objectives.
- Conduct performance management, coaching, and staff development activities.
- Foster a positive and customer-focused workplace culture.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and effective workforce planning.
- Drive employee engagement, accountability, and productivity.
Customer Service Excellence
- Deliver and maintain exceptional customer service standards.
- Resolve customer queries, complaints, and escalations professionally and efficiently.
- Build customer loyalty through positive customer interactions and service delivery.
- Promote a culture of service excellence throughout the store.
Financial Management and Reporting
- Manage store budgets and operating expenses.
- Monitor daily cash handling procedures and reconciliations.
- Analyse store performance reports and key business metrics.
- Prepare and submit operational and financial reports to management.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
