Purpose of the Role
As a Production Planner / Scheduler, you will be responsible for coordinating and optimising production across printing operations. The role focuses on maximising press efficiency, improving throughput, and ensuring on-time delivery, while balancing labour, materials, and machine capacity.
Key Responsibilities Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and manage daily production schedules aligned to press capacity, materials, and labour availability
- Convert customer orders into production-ready print jobs within ERP systems
- Prioritise jobs based on deadlines, customer requirements, and operational efficiency
- Monitor production progress to ensure OTIF (On Time In Full) targets are achieved
- Provide regular updates to internal stakeholders on job status and delivery timelines
- Proactively identify and resolve scheduling disruptions
Operational Coordination
- Collaborate with Customer Service and Production teams to ensure jobs are print-ready
- Optimise workflow and job sequencing within a pull-based production environment
- Facilitate daily production planning meetings
Performance & Reporting
- Track and analyse production performance (planned vs actual output, press hours, efficiencies)
- Report on backlog, output, and key operational metrics
- Support working capital optimisation through effective planning
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong cross-functional relationships to enhance planning effectiveness
- Promote a customer-focused culture, ensuring quality output and on-time delivery
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements within planning processes and systems
- Drive initiatives to enhance operational efficiency
Minimum Requirements
- 3–5 years’ experience as a Production Planner / Scheduler
- Non-negotiable: Experience within a printing environment
- Exposure to labels, packaging, or narrow web printing
- Strong understanding of production planning, scheduling, and capacity management
- Grade 12 (Matric) required; relevant tertiary qualification advantageous
- Proficiency in MS Office and ERP/planning systems
