Job Summary
Overview
A fast-paced manufacturing operation within the packaging and printing sector is seeking an experienced Millwright Technician to join their maintenance team on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring optimal equipment performance, minimizing downtime, and supporting continuous production efficiency in a high-speed printing and converting environment.
This is a critical and urgent role requiring immediate availability or short notice periods.
Purpose of the Role
To lead and coordinate all maintenance activities related to plant equipment, machinery, and facilities, ensuring maximum uptime, operational efficiency, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
Minimum Requirements Qualifications
- Trade Test Certificate: Millwright (Red Seal essential)
- Diploma in Engineering (advantageous)
Experience
- 5–8 years’ experience in a packaging, printing, or converting environment (non-negotiable)
- Strong exposure to high-speed rotogravure or similar printing presses
- Multi-skilled maintenance experience (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic)
- PLC fault finding experience (programming advantageous)
- Experience with pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, compressors, chillers, and generators
- Panel wiring and electrical fault-finding experience
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical and electrical maintenance activities
- Implement preventative maintenance programs
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment breakdowns
- Supervise and support maintenance staff
- Work closely with production to minimize downtime
- Conduct inspections and ensure quality compliance
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Enforce strict safety standards and procedures
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
Core Competencies
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and safety standards
- Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles (advantageous)
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Project coordination skills (Gantt charts advantageous)
Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts (day and night)
- High-speed, fast-paced production environment
- 4-week intensive training provided
- Must be able to work independently post-training
