TEMPORARY VACANCY – CONVENTIONAL TURNER

About the Position

Midvaal Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering and manufacturing company based in Beaconvale, Cape Town, for an experienced and Trade-Tested Turner with strong conventional machining experience.

This is an excellent short-term temporary opportunity for a technically competent Turner who is confident working on conventional machinery such as centre lathes, can work independently, and can produce accurate, high-quality components within a workshop environment.

Minimum Requirements

• Trade-Tested Turner – essential

• Proven experience operating conventional turning machinery

• Strong experience working on centre lathes / conventional lathes

• Previous experience in a manufacturing, engineering or machining environment

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

• Strong understanding of machining processes, measurements and tolerances

• Ability to set up and operate conventional machinery independently

• Competent with measuring equipment and precision instruments

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

• Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines

• Good knowledge of workshop health and safety procedures

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional lathes and other workshop machinery

• Manufacture, turn and machine components according to technical drawings and specifications

• Perform turning, facing, boring, threading and other conventional machining operations

• Select and fit appropriate cutting tools and tooling

• Take accurate measurements using verniers, micrometers and other precision measuring equipment

• Ensure components meet required specifications, dimensions and tolerances

• Monitor machining processes and make adjustments where required

• Inspect finished components for quality and dimensional accuracy

• Identify machining defects or issues and take corrective action

• Conduct basic machine checks and maintain machinery and tooling

• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area

• Work efficiently to meet production targets and deadlines

• Adhere to all company quality, safety and operational procedures

Important: This is a short-term temporary contract. Candidates must be available to commence work at short notice and be comfortable with temporary employment.
