Are you a Mechanical Engineer with project experience who enjoys the costing, tendering and commercial side of engineering more than the demands of site work?
We're recruiting two Cost Engineers for an established South African engineering company with an international client base, delivering multimillion-rand engineering projects locally and abroad.
This is an excellent opportunity for Mechanical Engineers who have gained practical experience in project execution, engineering, procurement, fabrication or contract management and are interested in developing a specialist career in Cost Engineering.
You don't necessarily need to be a Cost Engineer already. If you understand how engineering projects come together, can interpret technical drawings and have been involved in project costing, tenders, procurement or commercial project activities, we'd like to hear from you.
Your responsibilities will include:
Prepare accurate cost estimates and budgets for engineering projects, equipment and fabricated components.
Interpret mechanical drawings, technical specifications and bills of materials to determine project costs.
Develop an understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes, materials, labour and associated costs.
Prepare RFQs, obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations, and evaluate pricing.
Work closely with Engineering, Procurement and Project teams to develop competitive, commercially viable proposals.
Analyse project costs, identify commercial risks and recommend cost-saving opportunities.
Develop and maintain costing models, estimates and supporting documentation.
Participate in technical discussions and site inspections where required.
Mechanical Engineering Degree or National Diploma (essential).
1–5 years' relevant engineering experience, ideally within mechanical engineering projects, fabrication, manufacturing or industrial plant environments (Processing Plants within Mining)
Experience in project engineering, project costing, estimating, tendering, proposals, procurement or contract management.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering and fabrication drawings.
An understanding of engineering project lifecycles, from costing and procurement through to installation and commissioning, would be advantageous.
Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a genuine interest in the commercial aspects of engineering.
Existing Cost Engineering experience is advantageous but not essential.
Comfortable working with Excel.
Junior Cost Engineer: R300,000 – R400,000 per annum.
Mid-Level Cost Engineer: R500,000 – R660,000 per annum.
Salary will depend on relevant experience, qualifications and technical capability.
This opportunity offers exposure to substantial local and international engineering projects and the chance to develop specialist commercial engineering expertise within an established engineering business.
If you're a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys understanding what projects cost, how they're priced and how to make them commercially competitive, this could be the career move you've been looking for.
Submit your updated CV to be considered for either of these opportunities.
