Job Summary
About the Position
We are seeking a deeply compassionate, loving, and patient Registered Nurse to join a close-knit old age home located in a peaceful small town in the North-Eastern Cape's Karoo region.
This intimate facility caters to a small community of 30 to 40 residents, allowing for highly personalised, dignified, and attentive care. The ideal candidate will view nursing not just as a profession, but as a calling to support, comfort, and care for the elderly. Because many of the residents communicate exclusively in Afrikaans, fluency in the language is essential to ensure they feel understood and at home.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive, empathetic, and high-quality nursing care to 30-40 elderly residents.
- Administer medications, manage prescriptions, and strictly adhere to all clinical protocols.
- Monitor and record residents' daily health, vital signs, and overall well-being.
- Identify shifts in physical or mental health and coordinate with local medical professionals and families.
- Oversee basic wound care, mobility assistance, and chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension).
- Be available on-call every second weekend to handle medical escalations or facility emergencies.
- Foster a warm, trusting, and supportive environment that promotes the mental and emotional well-being of the residents.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient files and nursing records.
Minimum Requirements
- Registration: Current and valid registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse.
- Language Skills: Fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Experience: Proven nursing experience; previous experience in geriatric care, frail care, or an old age home environment is highly advantageous.
- Personal Traits: Exceptionally caring, patient, and empathetic nature with a genuine passion for eldercare.
- Flexibility: Willingness and ability to fulfill the every-second-weekend on-call requirement.
