Junior Sous Chef – 4-Star Hotel – Johannesburg South Our client, a prestigious 4-star hotel in Johannesburg South, is seeking a passionate and hands-on Junior Sous Chef to join their busy, high-volume restaurant operation. Job Description This role requires a strong culinary professional who can support the Senior Sous Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations while ensuring exceptional food quality, consistency, and presentation standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in supervising kitchen staff, maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, controlling costs, and delivering an outstanding guest dining experience. Responsibilities include assisting with menu execution, food preparation, stock control, ordering, food costing, staff training and development, kitchen administration, and maintaining HACCP and health & safety standards. The role also involves supporting inventory management, minimising wastage, conducting stock counts, and ensuring smooth service delivery during busy operational periods. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with excellent organisational skills, a passion for quality food, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospitality environment. Minimum Requirements Diploma in Professional Cookery or equivalent culinary qualification Minimum 4–5 years' experience in a professional kitchen environment Previous supervisory or leadership experience essential Strong knowledge of food costing, stock control, and kitchen operations Excellent understanding of HACCP, FIFO, and food safety standards Strong leadership and communication skills Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume environment Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
