Senior Professional Structural Engineer

Our client is a medium-sized national consulting engineering firm providing civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering, project management and environmental consulting services. They have offices across South Africa, including Cape Town, George, Gqeberha, East London, Queenstown, Durban and Johannesburg.

The Opportunity

They are looking for a Senior Professional Structural Engineer or Technologist to join their Cape Town office.

The salary is market-related and based on qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, design and manage building and engineering projects from inception to completion.

• Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, reports and tender documentation.

• Lead and manage structural design teams, including designers and draughtspersons.

• Review and quality-check technical work and deliverables.

• Manage structural works, contract administration and site/technical meetings.

• Conduct structural condition assessments and prepare reports.

• Handle technical queries and assist with dispute resolution.

• Manage departmental resources, workload and project schedules.

• Mentor candidate engineers and technologists.

• Maintain strong communication with clients and other professionals.

• Contribute to business development within the Structural Department.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with a structural engineering focus.

• ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist.

• Minimum 10 years’ verifiable post-registration experience in structural engineering, including design and contract administration.

• Experience with reinforced concrete and steel structures; experience in water infrastructure and water-retaining structures will be advantageous.

• Experience managing design teams and delivering projects on time and within budget.

• Strong knowledge of engineering codes and technical standards.

• Proficient in Master Series or Prokon, MS Office and MS Project.

• BIM experience, particularly ACC Docs, ACC Build, Revit and AutoCAD, advantageous.

• Strong client focus, communication skills and project ownership.

• Own vehicle and valid driver’s licence.
