Reporting To: Technical Manager
Role Overview
An established manufacturing organisation is seeking a capable Process Technician to monitor and optimise production processes, maintain product quality and support improved plant efficiency.
The successful candidate will troubleshoot equipment and process-related problems, support routine maintenance activities and work closely with Production Supervisors and the Maintenance team to identify and implement practical process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Training and Development
Support the ongoing development and upskilling of production team members.
Ensure that employee training remains aligned with operational requirements and relevant industry practices.
Train operators in basic preventive and autonomous maintenance activities.
Help operators develop the skills required to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
Production Performance and Quality
Monitor production processes and help ensure that daily production targets are achieved.
Support consistent product quality and improved operational efficiency.
Identify opportunities to optimise production processes and equipment performance.
Promote quality control and continuous improvement practices aimed at reducing production defects.
Changeovers and SMED
Oversee and manage production changeovers to minimise downtime and improve efficiency.
Develop and deliver training on Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) techniques.
Assist operators in performing faster and more effective changeovers.
Root-Cause Analysis and Problem-Solving
Facilitate daily root-cause analysis and problem-solving sessions based on issues raised during Daily Operations Meetings.
Investigate recurring equipment, process and quality problems.
Develop and implement appropriate corrective actions.
Troubleshoot problems and present practical solutions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Documentation and SOPs
Maintain accurate and current operational information.
Develop, review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Ensure that operating documentation reflects changes to processes and accepted working practices.
Safety, Maintenance and Operational Support
Support routine maintenance and equipment troubleshooting activities.
Promote a safe, productive and environmentally responsible working environment.
Work closely with Production and Maintenance teams to improve plant efficiency and equipment performance.
Provide support outside normal working hours and participate in standby duties when required.
Minimum Requirements
Matric or an equivalent qualification.
Mechanical Trade.
At least three years’ experience in an FMCG manufacturing-process environment.
Practical experience in production-process monitoring and optimisation.
Ability to troubleshoot operational or equipment-related problems and recommend solutions.
Experience with production changeovers and process improvement.
Understanding of root-cause analysis and corrective-action processes.
Experience developing, maintaining or working with SOPs.
Willingness to work outside normal working hours and perform standby duties when required.
