Job Overview
An established organisation is seeking a Data & BI Support Analyst to support its Business Intelligence function. The successful candidate will work closely with the BI Manager to transform multi-source data into accurate, timely, and actionable insights. This role combines strong data fundamentals with modern, AI-assisted analytics to accelerate reporting, dashboard development, and decision support.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines (ETL) from SQL databases, Excel/CSV files, and other data sources
- Develop, publish, and continuously improve dashboards and reports using Power BI, including data modelling, DAX, and Power Query
- Write efficient and reliable SQL queries for data extraction, validation, and KPI calculations
- Support the implementation of data quality controls, including completeness, accuracy, and reconciliation checks
- Apply best practices to validate and verify data prior to internal or external distribution
- Leverage AI-enabled tools (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT or similar) to accelerate insight generation, including trend analysis, anomaly detection, hypothesis development, and executive-ready narratives
- Collaborate with the BI Manager and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into analytical outputs and insights
- Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting processes and analytical delivery
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 (or equivalent)
- Relevant tertiary qualification (Degree or Diploma) in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
- 2–4 years’ experience in a Data Analyst or BI support role, preferably within operational or service-driven environments
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Intermediate to advanced SQL (joins, aggregations, performance optimisation)
- Power BI expertise, including data modelling, DAX, Power Query, and dashboard performance optimisation
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, Power Query, and data cleansing techniques
- Exposure to Python or similar tools for reporting or automation (advantageous)
- Awareness of data governance, data quality, and data privacy principles (e.g. POPIA)
- Experience with AI-assisted analytics tools for insight generation (advantageous)
- Think-Cell experience (nice to have)
- Strong analytical storytelling skills, with the ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights
