Maintenance Manager – Fruit Export Cold Storage Facility

We are seeking a skilled, hands-on Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance and upkeep of a large fruit export cold storage facility. The ideal candidate is a practical, technically minded all-rounder who can perform general repairs, maintain cold room infrastructure, and coordinate specialist contractors to ensure reliable, safe and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the maintenance, repair and upkeep of the entire facility, including cold rooms, buildings, loading bays and external areas.

• Perform welding, fabrication, plumbing, painting, mechanical repairs and general building maintenance.

• Maintain cold room doors, seals, insulated panels, drainage systems and supporting infrastructure.

• Conduct routine inspections, identify faults and implement preventative maintenance programmes.

• Identify refrigeration and electrical faults and coordinate qualified specialists where required.

• Maintain pumps, motors, fans, industrial doors, gates and workshop equipment.

• Manage contractors, maintenance costs, tools, spare parts and inventory.

• Respond to urgent breakdowns and minimise disruptions to fruit storage and export operations.

• Ensure compliance with health, safety and hygiene standards to protect stored fruit.

Minimum Requirements:

• At least 5 years’ practical maintenance experience in an industrial, commercial, warehouse, agricultural or similar environment.

• Proven welding, fabrication, plumbing and general maintenance skills.

• Experience in mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance.

• Practical understanding of cold rooms and industrial refrigeration systems.

• Basic electrical fault-finding knowledge, within the limits of relevant qualifications and authorisation.

• Ability to work independently, troubleshoot problems and carry out hands-on repairs.

• Good organisational, communication and contractor management skills.

• Relevant trade qualification preferred; valid driver’s licence advantageous.
