Job Purpose:
The Technician is responsible for providing technical support to customers through the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of fluid power and mechanical systems and equipment. The role includes diagnosing faults, performing preventative maintenance, installing piping and components, commissioning systems, and ensuring optimal performance of equipment. The Technician will contribute to the efficiency of the service department by delivering high-quality service and maintaining strong customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities System Diagnostics and Maintenance
Perform fault finding and troubleshooting on fluid power and mechanical systems.
Repair and service systems to restore them to operational standards.
Improve system performance and reliability through effective maintenance and adjustments.
Provide technical recommendations to customers to enhance equipment performance.
Minimise equipment downtime through effective maintenance and repair activities.
Inspect system interlocks, valves, and control components to ensure proper functioning.
Test electrical valves and related control systems.
Set up pumps and related components according to system specifications.
Inspect pressure switches, relief valves, and safety components.
Commission newly installed or refurbished systems.
Equipment Servicing
Perform routine and preventative maintenance on customer equipment.
Support customers in extending the operational lifespan of equipment.
Assist with identifying and sourcing critical spare parts.
Provide feedback to customers on equipment condition and performance.
Recommend replacement components when required.
Prepare job scopes for planned maintenance and future repairs.
Conduct oil sampling and condition monitoring where necessary.
Repair leaks and replace seals and related components.
Installation and Commissioning
Install small bore tubing and piping systems.
Install flexible hoses and associated components.
Perform pipe routing and install pipe supports or brackets.
Flush systems after installation to ensure operational readiness.
Conduct pressure testing to verify system integrity.
Commission systems and complete all commissioning procedures and documentation.
Component Repairs
Repair, test, and configure pumps and motors according to system requirements.
Perform refurbishment and repairs of power packs, manifolds, cylinders, and accumulators.
Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
Complete repair and installation work within allocated timeframes and budgets.
Accurately complete service reports and job sheets for costing and invoicing purposes.
Tools, Equipment, and Vehicle Management
Maintain service vehicles in a safe and roadworthy condition.
Ensure vehicle services, inspections, and licences are up to date.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
Qualifications and Experience
Matric / N4 or higher qualification.
Qualified Fitter or Millwright.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a technical maintenance or service environment.
Experience working with industrial or mobile equipment will be advantageous.
Strong technical knowledge of fluid power and mechanical systems.
Ability to configure and set up control components.
Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Medically fit.
Valid driver’s licence.
