Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst (Intermediate–Senior) to lead and support business analysis activities within an insurance and investments environment. The successful candidate will work independently to elicit, analyze, and document business requirements, translate them into actionable user stories, and partner with business and technical stakeholders to enable delivery of high-quality solutions.
What you'll do:
- Requirements Elicitation & Analysis
- Lead discovery workshops, interviews, and process walkthroughs with business and technology stakeholders.
- Analyze current-state processes, identify gaps/opportunities, and define future-state models.
- Documentation & Artefacts
- Produce clear and structured BRDs, FRDs, process maps (BPMN), data dictionaries, and decision logs.
- Write high-quality user stories and acceptance criteria (INVEST-compliant), maintain backlogs, and support definition of ready/done.
- Stakeholder Management
- Facilitate prioritization (incl. MoSCoW/Kano), align requirements with business value, and manage expectations.
- Communicate status, risks, and dependencies clearly across business and IT.
- Delivery Support
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, QA, and Developers through sprint cycles.
- Support test case design, UAT coordination, and defect triage to ensure traceability from requirements to delivery.
- Data & Reporting
- Perform data analysis, source-to-target mapping, and support for reporting/MI needs relevant to insurance/investment products.
- Governance & Compliance
- Ensure documentation aligns with internal standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., POPIA, FAIS/Treating Customers Fairly).
Your Expertise:
- Experience: 5+ years as a Business Analyst, with demonstrable experience in insurance and/or investments (life, short-term, retirement, unit trusts, wealth, or related domains).
- Core Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable with ambiguity.
- Proven ability to work independently and drive deliverables with minimal oversight.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; strong facilitation and presentation skills.
- User stories & acceptance criteria writing in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban).
- BRD/FRD documentation and process mapping (e.g., BPMN 2.0).
- Tools & Methods:
JIRA/Azure DevOps (or similar), Confluence, Visio/Lucidchart, SQL basics for data checks, MS Office (advanced Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business/IT/Commerce or equivalent experience.
- Agile BA/PO certifications (e.g., IIBA/CBAP/CCBA, PSPO, SAFe) beneficial.
Nice-to-Have (Advantageous)
- Exposure to policy administration systems, claims, underwriting, new business, billing, collections, advice/planning tools, or investment trading/settlement.
- Knowledge of South African regulatory environment (FSCA, FAIS, POPIA, TCF).
- Experience with data/BI (Power BI/Tableau), API requirements, and integration projects.
- Experience in operating model design and change management.
