A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Professional Structural Engineer or Engineering Technologist to join its Cape Town office.

Plan, design and administer contracts for engineering and building projects from inception through to completion.
Prepare detailed engineering calculations.
Prepare project and technical specifications.
Work independently while also leading an internal team of designers and draughtspersons.
Provide input into engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
Assist with the management and quality assurance of project deliverables.
Review and evaluate technical work completed by junior and intermediate engineers and contribute to the ongoing professional development of unregistered technical staff.
Prepare tender documentation.
Prepare project reports, including inception, concept and viability, design, tender evaluation, progress, financial and close-out reports.
Conduct structural condition assessments and prepare technical reports.
Manage the day-to-day contract administration and structural works on building and engineering projects.
Handle technical queries, assist with dispute resolution and lead site and technical meetings, including the preparation of minutes.
Maintain regular communication with clients and other professional team members.
Assist with project safety and environmental requirements during construction.
Perform general office and project-related administration.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on Structural Engineering.
Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist.
Minimum of 2 years’ verifiable post-registration experience in the planning, design and contract administration of building and engineering projects from inception to completion.
Strong experience in the design of bulk water reservoirs, water treatment works, stormwater management infrastructure, water-retaining structures, reinforced concrete framed structures and steel framed structures will be advantageous.
Proven experience in managing design teams and delivering high-quality design calculations, drawings, schedules and reports within agreed deadlines and budgets.
Strong understanding of applicable engineering design codes and technical standards.
Proficiency in Master Series or Prokon, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) software, particularly ACC Docs, ACC Build, Revit and AutoCAD, will be advantageous.
Strong client-service focus.
Ability to take ownership and accountability for projects.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including telephone and email communication.
Own reliable vehicle.
Valid Driver’s Licence.
