Fast Lane Arcade is an exciting new entertainment, restaurant and bar concept launching in Cape Town, combining a high-quality food and beverage offering with a premium, high-energy social entertainment experience. Our focus is on delivering excellent food, drinks and service in a vibrant, fast-paced environment, where the restaurant and bar are fundamental to the overall guest experience. As we prepare to launch our first Cape Town venue, we are building an experienced management team capable of establishing strong operational standards from day one and developing Fast Lane into a leading hospitality and entertainment destination. Role Description We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Assistant Restaurant Manager with a minimum of 10 years' experience in the restaurant industry to support the Restaurant Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of Fast Lane's restaurant and food and beverage offering. This is a hands-on management position suited to someone who has built their career in busy, high-volume restaurants, restaurant groups or premium casual dining environments. The successful candidate will have strong experience in front-of-house restaurant operations, team leadership, customer service and maintaining high operational standards. They will work closely with the Restaurant Manager to ensure the smooth running of the restaurant, bar and wider food and beverage operation. We are looking for someone who is highly visible on the floor, leads by example, takes ownership of their responsibilities and is comfortable making operational decisions when required. This is specifically a restaurant management position. Candidates whose experience is predominantly within hotels or general hospitality, rather than dedicated restaurant operations, will not be suitable for this role. Key Responsibilities Support the Restaurant Manager in overseeing the daily restaurant, bar and food and beverage operations. Supervise and coordinate front-of-house staff, ensuring smooth and efficient service throughout the day. Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, training, development and performance management of restaurant staff. Assist in preparing and managing staff schedules, ensuring appropriate staffing levels during all trading periods. Maintain consistently high standards of food, beverage presentation, customer service and overall guest experience. Take an active role on the restaurant floor, supporting the team during busy service periods and ensuring operational efficiency. Handle customer enquiries, complaints and feedback promptly and professionally. Work closely with the kitchen and bar teams to ensure consistent food and beverage quality, presentation and speed of service. Assist with supplier coordination, stock control, inventory management and purchasing. Support the monitoring food and beverage costs, labour costs, stock wastage and other key operational performance indicators. Implement and maintain restaurant operating procedures, service standards and internal controls. Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety, hygiene, health and safety requirements. Take responsibility for the restaurant operation in the absence of the Restaurant Manager. Work closely with the Restaurant Manager and senior management to achieve revenue, profitability and customer satisfaction targets. Play an active role in the successful launch and ongoing development of Fast Lane Cape Town. Qualifications & Experience Minimum 10 years' experience within the restaurant industry is essential, including substantial hands-on restaurant supervisory or management experience. Previous experience as an Assistant Restaurant Manager, Restaurant Manager, Floor Manager or in a comparable restaurant management position. Experience gained primarily within standalone restaurants, restaurant groups, premium casual dining or high-volume restaurant operations. Proven ability to supervise busy restaurant operations while maintaining consistently high standards of service. Strong understanding of front-of-house operations, with practical knowledge of kitchen and bar service requirements. Experience managing, training, motivating and developing restaurant teams. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to resolve guest issues confidently and professionally. Good commercial understanding of food and beverage costs, labour management, inventory control, wastage and revenue targets. Experience implementing and maintaining restaurant operating procedures and service standards. Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build a positive and productive team environment. Highly organised, proactive and solutions-focused, with the ability to remain calm and effective during busy service periods. Comfortable taking responsibility for the restaurant operation and making decisions in the absence of the Restaurant Manager. Willingness to be actively involved in daily operations rather than managing solely from an office. This role requires candidates with direct; hands-on restaurant management experience . Candidates whose management experience is primarily within hotels or broader hospitality operations ; rather than dedicated restaurant environments, will not be considered for this position. Candidates must also be willing and able to provide verifiable references covering their previous employment ; together with any required police clearance/background checks . Experience assisting with the opening of a new restaurant or hospitality venue would be advantageous. Knowledge of the Cape Town restaurant market and an established local network would be beneficial. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required by the business. Additional Requirements Applicants must meet the following requirements: Be based in Cape Town and have the legal right to work in South Africa. Have a minimum of 10 years' substantial experience within the restaurant industry. Have direct, hands-on experience supervising or managing restaurant operations. Be willing and able to provide verifiable references covering previous employment. Be willing to undergo any required police clearance and background checks.
