Introduction

An established organisation within the Mining and Engineering sector is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented General Buyer to support the Procurement Team with purchasing, sourcing, expediting and supplier management activities.

This role is ideal for a candidate looking to grow their procurement career while gaining exposure to mining, engineering, ERP systems and supply chain operations.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Purchasing

• Create and manage Purchase Orders (POs).

• Source routine and low-risk commodities from approved suppliers.

• Obtain competitive quotations and prepare quote comparisons.

• Ensure procurement activities comply with purchasing procedures and approved supplier requirements.

Supplier Management & Expediting

• Follow up on supplier deliveries and overdue orders.

• Expedite open orders and backorders.

• Communicate delivery updates to branches and internal stakeholders.

• Assist with resolving supply shortages and urgent operational requirements.

ERP & Data Management

• Maintain supplier and item master data within the ERP system.

• Ensure pricing, supplier references, lead times and inventory information remain accurate.

• Assist with procurement reporting and KPI tracking.

Procurement Support

• Support Buyers across multiple commodity groups.

• Assist with procurement projects and process improvements.

• Provide procurement coverage during peak workloads and leave periods.

Qualifications & Experience

• Grade 12 / Matric.

• CIPS Level 3: Advanced Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations.

• Data Analytics or related certification will be advantageous.

• Minimum 2 years' procurement experience within the Mining and/or Engineering industries.

• Supply Chain knowledge and procurement experience.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Experience working on ERP systems, preferably MS Navision.

• Experience obtaining supplier quotations and managing Purchase Orders.

• Mining industry exposure will be advantageous.

Technical Skills

• Advanced Excel.

• MS Navision or similar ERP systems.

• Procurement reporting and analysis.

• Supplier management and expediting.

• RFQ processes and quote comparisons.
