About the Role

WatersEdge Solutions is partnering with an established player in the South African long-term insurance industry to recruit a detail-oriented and deadline-driven Financial Accountant. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial governance of a fast-growing, client-centric company. You’ll be responsible for accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting support, and ensuring compliance with IFRS, Companies Act, and SARS regulations.

This hybrid role offers both structured mentorship and the autonomy to manage full-cycle accounting operations in a dynamic and impact-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts and financial reports

• Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate journal entries, accruals, and adjustments

• Conduct reconciliations across bank accounts, debtors, creditors, accruals, and provisions

• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

• Submit VAT201, EMP201, and provisional tax returns in compliance with SARS

• Assist with audit preparation and respond to audit queries

• Improve processes using ERP systems (Sage, Syft), ensuring strong internal controls

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s Degree or Honours in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent

• 2–5 years’ accounting experience, ideally in the insurance or financial services sector

• Strong understanding of IFRS, SARS regulations, and Companies Act compliance

• Proven experience preparing management accounts and financial statements

• Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas)

• Experience working with ERP systems (Sage, Syft preferred)

• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines

Nice to Have

• SAICA/SAIPA articles completed

• Experience with internal controls and process improvement initiatives

• Background in long-term insurance or financial services
