Kendrick Recruitment is currently seeking a highly organised and skilled Reserve Officer for a luxury safari camp based in the Hoedspruit area. This position is ideal for an experienced professional who can manage lodge infrastructure and ensure the smooth operation of all facilities, vehicles, and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Lodge Infrastructure & Facilities Maintenance:
Oversee maintenance of guest accommodations, staff housing, pools, and communal areas
Ensure proper functioning of all plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, refrigeration, water and septic systems
Conduct regular inspections to prevent breakdowns and identify required repairs
Monitor and maintain generators, boreholes, and related systems
Vehicle & Equipment Management:
Supervise the maintenance and servicing of safari vehicles and lodge transport
Manage repair of generators, air conditioning units, and other technical equipment
Maintain an accurate inventory of tools, spare parts, and maintenance supplies
Team Leadership & Supervision:
Train and lead the maintenance team, assigning tasks and ensuring high standards
Enforce health and safety protocols in line with company and legal standards
Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports
Manage stock control and ensure accurate reporting
Compliance & Environmental Responsibility:
Ensure all maintenance work aligns with local regulations and environmental practices
Promote waste management, water conservation, and energy efficiency
Budgeting & Cost Control:
Develop and manage the department's budget
Source and procure materials and services in a cost-effective manner
Liaise with suppliers and contractors for infrastructure repairs and upgrades
Emergency Response & Problem Solving:
Serve as the point of contact for urgent maintenance issues
Ensure swift resolution of breakdowns to maintain guest comfort and safety
Maintain all emergency systems including fire alarms and extinguishers
Requirements:
Matric certificate
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a lodge or hospitality setting
Technical knowledge and understanding of lodge operations and systems
Hands-on approach with excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities
Knowledge of water and septic plant systems essential
Experience in plumbing, welding, carpentry, painting, refrigeration/air conditioning, mechanical, and electrical systems
Strong leadership and team management skills
Project management experience beneficial
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure and in remote environments
Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as per operational needs
Valid Code 10 Driver’s Licence
