Job Summary
A leading organisation operating within a specialised healthcare-related sector is seeking a highly capable and detail-driven Senior Accountant to join its Gauteng-based team. Reporting directly to senior leadership, the successful incumbent will take ownership of the full accounting function, support business operations through sound financial management, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of internal controls, reporting processes, and organisational efficiency. This role offers broad exposure across finance, inventory, and administrative functions, making it an excellent opportunity for a hands-on and commercially minded accounting professional.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Management
- Take full responsibility for the accounting function up to trial balance.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Perform bank reconciliations and oversee daily cash flow management.
- Calculate and submit VAT returns accurately and timeously.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and management accounts.
- Assist with year-end financial preparation and liaise with external auditors.
- Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with financial policies and procedures.
Inventory Management & Reconciliations
- Oversee inventory control processes and stock reconciliations.
- Monitor inventory movements and investigate discrepancies.
- Support the accurate valuation and reporting of inventory across the business.
Medical Industry Accounting
- Work with medical inventory and product-related financial data.
- Utilize knowledge of NAPPI codes and medical products where applicable.
- Support financial processes unique to the healthcare and medical supply environment.
Office & Operational Management
- Manage and coordinate daily office operations.
- Supervise and provide guidance to administrative staff members.
- Oversee supplier relationships and procurement-related processes.
- Ensure all administrative and operational functions run efficiently and effectively.
Reporting & Systems
- Generate accurate financial and operational reports for management.
- Maintain and improve reporting processes through effective use of ERP and accounting systems.
- Analyse financial data and provide meaningful insights to support business decision-making.
Job Experience and Skills Required:
- BCom Accounting Degree or similar financial qualification.
- 3–5 years of accounting experience in a senior accounting role.
- Previous experience within the medical or healthcare industry will be highly advantageous.
- Working knowledge of NAPPI codes and medical inventory management preferred.
- 1–2 years of staff supervision or management experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working on ERP and accounting systems.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Non-Negotiable Experience:
Candidates should demonstrate experience in the following areas:
