An exciting opportunity has become available for a Financial Controller / Financial Accountant to join a dynamic and growing organisation within the mining and plant hire sector.
This position is suited to a technically strong finance professional who thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys taking ownership of the full accounting function. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of financial information, strengthening internal controls, supporting operational decision-making, and driving financial efficiencies across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Manage the full accounting function through to Trial Balance.
• Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and month-end reporting packs.
• Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial information across the organisation.
• Support decision-making through meaningful financial reporting and analysis.

Reconciliations & Financial Controls

• Perform and review bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Ensure all accounts are appropriately reconciled and supported.
• Strengthen financial controls and identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies.
• Maintain compliance with internal policies and financial procedures.

Costing & Financial Analysis

• Conduct detailed costing analysis to support operational and financial performance.
• Monitor costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business objectives.
• Assist management with profitability and performance analysis.

Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

• Prepare and manage cash flow forecasts.
• Monitor working capital requirements and liquidity positions.
• Refine and optimise payment cycles and cash management processes.
• Ensure effective oversight of accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Compliance

• Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Support VAT submissions and statutory compliance requirements.
• Prepare audit schedules and liaise with external auditors during audit processes.
• Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards and regulatory obligations.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Maintain and support ERP and accounting systems.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the finance function.
• Assist with the implementation of improved reporting and financial management processes.
• Leverage system capabilities to improve efficiency and information accuracy.

Essential Requirements

Qualifications

• BCom Accounting Degree or similar financial qualification.
• Completed SAICA or SAIPA Articles highly advantageous.

Experience

• 5-10 years' commercial finance and accounting experience.
• Proven experience managing the full accounting function.
• Strong month-end reporting and management accounts experience.
• Experience in costing, financial analysis, and cash flow management.
• Exposure to audit processes and statutory compliance.
• Experience within the mining, plant hire, construction, industrial, or similar sectors will be advantageous.

Technical Skills

• Strong ERP and accounting systems experience.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
• Solid understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Strong knowledge of financial controls and process improvement methodologies.
