An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Financial Accountant to join a well-established organisation operating within the mining and plant hire sector.
This role is ideal for a technically strong finance professional who enjoys taking ownership of the accounting function, ensuring compliance, and delivering accurate financial reporting to support business decision-making. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing month-end reporting, reconciliations, statutory compliance, and the overall integrity of the financial records.

Working closely with management and operational teams, you will contribute to the financial stability and ongoing success of the business while gaining exposure to a broad range of accounting responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Manage the full accounting function up to Trial Balance.
• Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Ensure all financial transactions are processed accurately and in accordance with accounting principles.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules.
• Assist with financial analysis and reporting to support management decision-making.

Month-End & Reconciliations

• Perform month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
• Prepare and review bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Investigate and resolve reconciling items and accounting discrepancies.
• Ensure all accounts are accurately reconciled and supported.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Oversee creditor and debtor processes to ensure accurate and timely processing.
• Monitor outstanding balances and assist with collections where required.
• Ensure supplier payments are processed in accordance with company policies and approved payment cycles.

Cash Flow & Treasury Support

• Assist with cash flow management and forecasting.
• Monitor daily cash positions and support working capital management initiatives.
• Provide visibility into cash requirements and operational funding needs.

Compliance & Audit

• Prepare VAT reconciliations and assist with statutory submissions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant tax and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with annual audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.
• Maintain accurate supporting documentation and audit trails.

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

• Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Perform costing analysis and monitor expenditure trends.
• Support management with financial insights and variance analysis.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial efficiency and reporting accuracy.

Requirements

Qualifications

• BCom Accounting Degree or equivalent financial qualification.
• Completed SAICA or SAIPA Articles will be highly advantageous.

Experience

• 5-10 years' experience within a financial accounting environment.
• Strong experience preparing management accounts independently.
• Proven exposure to month-end and year-end reporting processes.
• Experience with balance sheet reconciliations, cash books, and general ledger management.
• Exposure to costing and financial analysis.
• Industry experience within mining, plant hire, construction, engineering, or similar sectors will be advantageous.

Technical Skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong ERP and accounting systems experience.
• Solid understanding of VAT and statutory compliance requirements.
• Strong reporting and reconciliation skills.
• Ability to analyse financial information and identify discrepancies.
