An innovative and growing Marketing and Media concern is seeking to appoint a technically strong and commercially minded Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function across a diverse group structure.
This is a hands-on finance leadership role suited to a professional who is equally comfortable with technical accounting, group reporting, budgeting and forecasting, tax compliance and commercial financial analysis.
You will work closely with senior management and business leaders, providing accurate financial information, challenging performance where required and using financial insight to support sound commercial decision-making.
Main Purpose of the Role
To take overall responsibility for the finance function across the group, ensuring strong financial reporting, sound controls, statutory compliance and effective financial planning, while providing meaningful commercial insight to support the continued growth and performance of the business.
Qualification, Skills and Experience Required
- Professionally qualified CA(SA), CIMA or SAIPA
- Registered as a Commissioner of Oaths
- At least 6 years' relevant finance experience, including experience in a finance leadership capacity
- Experience managing and mentoring a small finance team
- Demonstrated experience working across multiple entities / group structures
- Strong experience with month-end, management accounts, consolidation and intercompany transactions
- Sound technical accounting knowledge, ideally including IFRS for SMEs
- Strong understanding of South African financial regulations and compliance requirements
- Practical knowledge of SARS, VAT, PAYE and income tax
- Proven budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling experience
- Strong commercial and analytical ability, with an understanding of pricing, costing, margins, commissions and profitability
- Advanced Excel and strong overall systems capability
- Detail-focused, proactive and solutions-oriented
- A hands-on approach, with the ability to move between strategic financial analysis and detailed accounting matters
Key Responsibilities
- Taking full accountability for the finance function across the group
- Managing and overseeing month-end, management accounts, financial reporting and group consolidation
- Managing intercompany transactions and ensuring accurate group reporting
- Leading the budgeting, forecasting and financial planning process
- Developing financial models and providing meaningful analysis to senior management
- Providing commercial insight into pricing, costing, margins, commissions and business profitability
- Supporting senior management and business leaders with financial decision-making
- Ensuring compliance with all statutory and tax obligations, including SARS, VAT, PAYE and income tax
- Managing audits and liaising with external auditors and professional advisors
- Overseeing cash flow, treasury activities and financial risk
- Reviewing and strengthening financial controls, processes and systems
- Maintaining oversight of transactional finance areas including debtors, creditors and payroll
- Leading, developing and mentoring the finance team
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial performance, efficiency and profitability
- Providing hands-on technical support and resolving accounting issues where required
