Diesel Mechanic – Mobile Plant & Fleet

Reporting To: Fleet / Operations Manager

Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to service, maintain, and repair a fleet of mobile cranes, cherry pickers, trucks, and bakkies. The successful candidate will be hands-on, reliable, and capable of working independently while ensuring fleet availability and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, diagnose, repair, and maintain mobile cranes (yellow metal), cherry pickers, trucks, and bakkies
- Perform preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs on diesel engines
- Carry out auto-electrical and hydraulic fault finding and repairs
- Complete job cards accurately and timeously
- Plan maintenance work and maintain a computer-based service schedule
- Ensure all machinery complies with safety and operational standards
- Work independently when required and manage workload effectively
- Support shutdown periods, including early starts and late finishes when operationally required
- Participate in standby duty and weekend work when necessary
Minimum Requirements
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, specifically within yellow metal / mobile cranes
- Several years’ hands-on experience working with heavy-duty plant and fleet vehicles
- Strong auto-electrical and hydraulic repair knowledge
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Computer literacy for maintenance planning and service records
- Physically fit and capable of performing demanding mechanical work
- Valid driver’s licence (Code EC or similar advantageous)
