Job Summary
Areas of Responsibilities
- Design of overhead power lines including conductor selection, structure placement, and routing optimization for voltages of 132kV, 220kV, 275kV, 400kV and/or 765kV.
- Conduct field surveys and feasibility studies for new line construction and existing line modifications
- Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and construction documentation
- Coordinate with environmental, permitting, and right-of-way teams for project development
- Perform load flow analysis and voltage regulation studies
- Inspect existing transmission and distribution lines for maintenance requirements
- Investigate and analyze line outages, equipment failures, and protection system operations
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NERC) and company safety procedures
- Collaborate with construction crews and contractors during line installation and maintenance
- Develop cost estimates and project schedules for line projects
- Review and approve as-built drawings and documentation
- Participate in emergency response and system restoration activities

Education, Language & Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Professional Registration (Pr. Eng or Pr.Tech Eng) preferred

Experience |
- 5-10 years of experience in transmission/distribution line engineering
- Proficiency in power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, SKM, PLSCADD, DigSILENT, etc.)
- Experience with renewable energy design, implementation and/or integration

Knowledge |
- Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (ESKOM, NESC, IEEE, NERC, CIGRE, etc.)
- Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, and relevant engineering design software
