Job Summary
Minimum Requirements
- NQF Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical Trade, or currently enrolled in a recognised electrical apprenticeship or learnership programme
- Electrical Trade Theory qualification, either completed or currently in progress
- 0 to 2 years’ experience within an electrical, technical or maintenance support environment
- Previous exposure to hotel, hospitality, commercial property or building maintenance will be advantageous
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, wiring, lighting, plug circuits and distribution boards
- Basic ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and electrical layouts
- Willingness to learn commercial electrical systems, testing equipment, circuit breakers, relays and motor controls
- Strong awareness of electrical safety and the importance of following correct procedures
- Ability to follow instructions carefully and work under the supervision of qualified and experienced team members
- Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving ability
- Strong attention to detail and a responsible approach to tools, equipment and property
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Physically fit and comfortable working within a busy hotel maintenance environment
- Ability to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required
- Professional grooming, presentation and a disciplined approach to work
- South African citizen or holder of a valid South African work permit
- A fully updated CV with relevant qualifications and contactable reference details is essential
What You’ll Be Doing
- Assisting qualified electricians with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, fixtures and wiring across the hotel
- Preparing work areas, tools and materials required for electrical maintenance and repair tasks
- Supporting the Senior Electrician with basic electrical repairs, testing and fault-finding under appropriate supervision
- Participating in routine preventative maintenance inspections of distribution boards, lighting systems, plug circuits and other electrical installations
- Assisting with checking electrical panels, identifying loose connections and replacing lamps, fittings and basic components where appropriate
- Immediately reporting electrical faults, potential hazards and safety concerns to the supervising electrician
- Learning to safely use electrical tools, testing instruments and equipment
- Developing practical knowledge of commercial wiring, circuit breakers, relays, motor controls and electrical systems
- Learning to read and interpret basic wiring diagrams, layouts and technical information
- Following all health, safety and electrical compliance procedures at all times
- Wearing the required PPE and ensuring tools and equipment are used safely and correctly
- Never working on live electrical systems or high-voltage equipment without the required training, authorisation and supervision
- Participating in toolbox talks, technical training and ongoing skills development
- Keeping tools clean, organised and correctly stored after use
- Maintaining clean, organised and safe work areas during and after maintenance activities
- Assisting with tool, equipment and material inventories
- Helping to complete job cards, logbooks and maintenance records accurately
- Learning to use the hotel’s CMMS system, including OMNI, to log, update and close maintenance tasks under supervision
- Progressively taking on additional responsibilities as your technical skills, knowledge and experience develop
