Introduction Harmony Gold Mine is seeking a highly skilled and analytical System Engineer Tech Spec I to develop, maintain, and broaden the company's information technology and business application systems. Operating in a balanced surface office environment (50:50 field to office ratio), the successful candidate will provide specialist, high-level technical advice and support for installing, testing, tuning, and maintaining complex hardware and software systems. This role operates under strict time constraints with high-consequence decision-making, requiring a resilient individual who will meticulously uphold company policies and the Mine Health and Safety Act to achieve zero harm. Minimum Requirements To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria: Education: Tertiary qualification in Information Systems Technology. Experience: 2–3 years of relevant IT experience. Business Experience: 2–3 years of relevant business experience pertinent to the business systems supported. Project & Skills Exposure: Prior project exposure and involvement, alongside good verbal and written communication skills. Certifications: ITIL certification and relevant business applications training pertinent to the systems supported. Licensing & Medical: A valid Code B/EB driver's license and a valid Medical Fitness Certificate. Job Description Summary The System Engineer Tech Spec I will be responsible for providing high-level technical expertise, system optimization, and security infrastructure oversight across Harmony's application ecosystem. Key accountabilities include: High-Level Technical Support: Provide specialist advice for installing, testing, tuning, diagnosing, and maintaining both internal and external hardware, operating systems, and utility-enabling software. Project & Technical Analysis: Develop project plans for the implementation of new hardware/software systems and direct technical analysis of complex system components. System Operations & Maintenance: Monitor systems and infrastructure to detect potential problems, install upgrades, design hardware and software tests, and advise on the procurement of application-specific hardware in alignment with architectural requirements. Security & Access Administration: Create and maintain user access profiles, conduct thorough audits of system passwords and user activity, and coordinate with operations for quarterly auditor-required reviews. Business & Supplier Interface: Support operations by troubleshooting system issues, assisting with user training, defining system changes, and managing day-to-day supplier interfaces to ensure SLA compliance for incidents. Communication & Collaboration: Attend weekly Change Advisory Board meetings for IS Managers and maintain effective communication and feedback channels across all internal departments and stakeholders.
