Purpose
To lead, support and manage a portfolio of Carrol Boyes stores within an allocated region by driving sales performance, operational excellence, customer experience, people development and compliance with Company standards. Area Managers are responsible for ensuring that all stores within their region operate efficiently, profitably and in alignment with the Carrol Boyes brand. The role is accountable for achieving regional sales targets, developing Store Managers, safeguarding Company assets and maintaining operational discipline across multiple locations. Area Managers are custodians of the Carrol Boyes brand and are entrusted with protecting the Company’s people, assets, reputation and operational standards within their area of responsibility.
About the Role
As an Area Manager at Carrol Boyes, you will be responsible for leading multiple stores within your designated region and ensuring consistent execution of the Company’s retail strategy.
You will provide leadership, coaching and support to Store Managers and their teams while driving commercial performance, operational compliance and customer experience standards.
The role requires strong leadership, business acumen and the ability to influence performance through effective people management, operational oversight and strategic planning.
Area Managers play a critical role in protecting Company assets, developing future talent and ensuring that every store delivers the premium customer experience associated with the Carrol Boyes brand.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Performance and Profitability
Drive achievement of regional sales, turnover and profitability targets.
Monitor and analyse sales performance across all stores within the region.
Develop and implement action plans to address underperformance.
Identify opportunities to increase sales, improve conversion and maximise profitability.
Review store performance indicators and implement corrective measures where necessary.
Support promotional campaigns, product launches and seasonal initiatives.
Ensure stores achieve budgeted sales and operational objectives.
Customer Experience and Brand Excellence
Ensure consistent delivery of exceptional customer service across all stores.
Promote and uphold the premium standards associated with the Carrol Boyes brand.
Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements where required.
Ensure stores maintain exceptional visual merchandising and presentation standards.
Conduct regular store visits to assess customer experience and brand compliance.
Support Store Managers in resolving customer complaints and service concerns.
People Leadership and Development
Lead, coach and develop Store Managers and retail teams.
Conduct regular performance discussions, coaching sessions and development planning.
Drive accountability and performance management across the region.
Identify high-potential employees and support succession planning initiatives.
Support recruitment, onboarding and retention activities.
Ensure all employees receive the necessary training and development opportunities.
Promote employee engagement, teamwork and a positive workplace culture.
Store Operations and Compliance
Ensure stores comply with all Company policies, procedures and operational standards.
Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Conduct regular store audits and compliance reviews.
Ensure adherence to opening, closing and operational procedures.
Monitor and support implementation of Company initiatives and projects.
Ensure accurate administration and record keeping across all stores.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, maintenance and store presentation.
Stock Accountability and Loss Prevention
Area Managers are entrusted with the oversight, control and safeguarding of Company merchandise, inventory and operational assets across multiple stores.
Employees are expected to:
Monitor stock management practices and inventory controls across all stores.
Ensure stock counts, stocktakes and stock control procedures are conducted accurately.
Investigate stock variances, losses and operational irregularities.
Ensure compliance with receiving, storage, transfer and stock handling procedures.
Monitor shrinkage levels and implement corrective action where required.
Support loss prevention investigations and risk management initiatives.
Area Managers are accountable for ensuring that Company stock and assets are properly managed and protected within their region.
Financial Controls and Risk Management
Ensure compliance with Company financial controls and approval processes.
Monitor petty cash, banking, refunds, discounts and transactional controls.
Investigate financial irregularities and escalate concerns appropriately.
Support budgeting, forecasting and cost management processes.
Ensure responsible use of Company resources and expenditure.
Identify and mitigate operational and financial risks.
Reporting and Business Management
Analyse store performance data and prepare management reports.
Monitor KPIs and performance metrics across all stores.
Provide recommendations to improve sales, operational efficiency and profitability.
Participate in strategic planning and business improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate records and reporting in line with Company requirements.
Communicate effectively with Head Office and other departments.
Qualifications and Experience
Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent
Relevant tertiary qualification in Business Management, Retail Management or a related field (advantageous)
Minimum 5 years’ retail management experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience managing multiple stores or retail locations
Proven track record of achieving sales and operational targets
Experience leading and developing teams
Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively
