Job Purpose

The Sales Assistant is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, driving sales through effective product knowledge and customer engagement, maintaining high merchandising standards, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the store to ensure an outstanding shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities

Sales and Customer Service

• Greet and welcome customers in a friendly, professional, and approachable manner.

• Assist customers in identifying products that meet their needs.

• Provide accurate product information, including features, sizing, pricing, promotions, and care instructions.

• Actively promote sales by recommending complementary products and upselling where appropriate.

• Achieve individual and store sales targets.

• Resolve customer queries and escalate concerns to management when necessary.

Merchandising

• Ensure merchandise is displayed according to company visual merchandising standards.

• Replenish stock on the sales floor as required.

• Maintain a clean, organised, and attractive shopping environment.

• Ensure products are correctly priced and ticketed.

• Assist with promotional displays and seasonal merchandising changes.

Stock Management

• Receive, unpack, and prepare stock for the sales floor.

• Conduct regular stock replenishment.

• Assist with stock counts and inventory control.

• Report damaged or missing stock to management.

• Maintain an organised stockroom.

Point of Sale Support

• Process customer transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system when required.

• Handle cash and card payments in accordance with company procedures.

• Assist with exchanges and returns following company policy.

Housekeeping and Store Standards

• Maintain cleanliness throughout the store, fitting rooms, and stockroom.

• Ensure fitting rooms remain tidy and merchandise is returned promptly to the sales floor.

• Follow all health, safety, and security procedures.

Teamwork

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve store goals.

• Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.

• Support team members during busy trading periods.

• Contribute to a positive and productive work environment.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.

• Previous retail sales experience is advantageous.

• Experience in clothing or fashion retail is preferred.

• Ability to work flexible retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.

Knowledge and Skills
