Position OverviewA vacancy exists for a qualified and experienced Workshop Manager within a reputable transport operation. The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing all workshop and fleet maintenance functions, ensuring operational efficiency, compliance, and optimal vehicle availability.

Minimum Job RequirementsGrade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification
Qualified Diesel Mechanic (other artisan trade qualifications may be considered)
Computer literacy (MS Office & PowerPoint – advanced level)
5–8 years’ experience in heavy-duty vehicle maintenance
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management role
Post-matric qualification in technical / N4 Engineering will be advantageous
Proven experience in vehicle fleet management
Sound knowledge of tyre management systems
Key Responsibilities (Job Outputs)Assist in managing the technical budget
Oversee maintenance of the vehicle fleet
Manage maintenance of facilities, tools and equipment
Control workshop tools, equipment, and asset registers
Manage engineering administration functions
Supervise workshop personnel and identify training/development needs
Conduct on-the-job training for subordinates
Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure optimal service delivery
Maintain discipline within the workshop environment
Working ConditionsNormal transport operational conditions apply
Incumbent may be required to work long and irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays, depending on operational requirements

Bus passenger transport industry
Technical/engineering maintenance practices for large fleet operations
Operational relationship between transport and technical departments
Financial management principles (budget control)
