Our client, an International Leader in the Financial services sector is seeking to URGENTLY appoint a dynamic a highly skilled and motivated Operations Manager to lead and mentor their data engineering operation team based in their Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa Offices. KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS : At minimum a bachelors or masters degree in computer science, data science or a related field At least 5 years of experience In Data Engineering or related field, with 3 years in a leadership role Experience with data warehousing, data modelling, and ETL processes Excellent knowledge on platform design best practice Knowledge of project managements principles Display excellent analytical and problem-solving ability and solid object-orientated design and implementation skills. Good verbal and written communication skills that are presentable and display the ability to work with a variety of internal stakeholders. Strong organisational skills, including the ability to appropriately assign skills to various diverse audiences. Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills. Ability to lead by example. Ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines. ability to collaborate and work with multiple stakeholders and work successfully with teams to achieve their goals. Display and understanding of the business needs and expectations and the ability to consistently deliver a quality solution that meets client and business requirements. Display good attention to detail and a strong orientation towards ensuring client satisfaction and technical delivery. Able to provide technical leadership and mentor more junior engineers and developers to deliver a high-quality solution. Strong ability in portfolio construction and related tools Proven experience in managing large scale project from conception to deployment. Ability to operate effectively in a high-tempo, high-pressure environment. Must be highly organised with great attention to detail. Possess a strong technical background in data engineering, along with excellent leadership and project management skills. Ability to streamline processes, ensure data quality, and drive continuous improvement in our data pipelines and infrastructure. KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Team Leadership: Lead/mentor a team of data engineers, providing guidance, feedback, and fostering a collaborative & innovative environment. Project Management: Manage end-to-end data engineering projects, including requirements gathering, planning, execution and delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. Data Pipeline Management: Oversee the design, development and maintenance of scalable and efficient data pipelines ensuring data is collected, processed and integrated from various sources to support analytics and reporting needs. Data Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain data quality checks, validation processes, and data cleansing procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data. Infrastructure Management: Collaborate with the infrastructure team to optimize and scale the data engineering environment ensuring high availability and performance of data processing and storage systems. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and provide data solutions that meet their needs. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and innovation within data engineering operations, striving for continuous improvement. Resource Planning: Allocate resources effectively and efficiently to meet project deadlines and operational needs.
