An established UK-affiliated higher education institution in Qatar is seeking an experienced Librarian to manage and develop its academic library services. The role supports students, researchers, and academic staff by providing access to high-quality physical and digital resources, delivering information literacy programmes, and contributing to academic planning and course development.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, manage, and expand academic library collections (print and digital).
Select, acquire, catalogue, and maintain library resources using library management systems.
Create, update, and manage electronic and printed information resources.
Deliver information and digital literacy training to students, researchers, and academic staff.
Support academic departments through research assistance and curriculum collaboration.
Assist researchers with literature searches using databases, printed materials, and online tools.
Manage reading lists, loan policies, and circulation services.
Handle user enquiries, including one-to-one academic support sessions.
Organise library events to encourage engagement and use of library facilities.
Manage library budgets for allocated subject areas and oversee procurement.
Maintain supplier and external professional relationships.
Provide line management and support to library staff and oversee flexible opening hours.
Maintain archives and special collections where required.
Stay up to date with developments in academic librarianship and digital resources.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
Degree in Library and Information Science, or equivalent recognised qualification.
Minimum 5 years’ senior or management-level experience in an academic higher education library environment.
Desirable:
Experience in a UK-style higher education institution.
Working knowledge of Arabic.
