CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of the post is to facilitate and administer the teaching and learning activities in modules incorporating comprehensive primary health care and clinical skills development for Medical and Health Science students in the Faculty of Health Sciences’ Medical School on the Missionvale campus. To participate in research and to contribute to the academic and community engagement and teaching, as well as being involved in the core functions of the university.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Provide teaching and learning activities for comprehensive primary health care and clinical skills in the Medical School Program, inclusive of campus as well as community settings
2. Provide sound knowledge of the theory and application of clinical practice in relevant disciplines in the Medical School program
3. To assess students, including formative and summative assessment
4. To provide timeous academic and related support to students
5. To contribute to the effective running of the Clinical Skills laboratory
6. To be involved in research activities of the Medical School of the Faculty of Health Sciences

CORE COMPETENCIES

1. Application and facilitation of diverse teaching and learning methodologies for Comprehensive Primary Health Care and Clinical skills to Medical and Health Science students
2. Ability to provide oversight to ensure that assessments are quality-controlled and standardized, and

     that learning materials and equipment are in place

1. Sound knowledge of Primary Health Care and the Public Health systems
2. Ability to actively engage with students and provide a student-focused learning approach
3. Knowledge of research theory and applications in Comprehensive Primary Health Care
4. MSWord, PowerPoint and Excel skills and the willingness to learn internal software programs

REQUIREMENTS

Academic

Undergraduate qualification in Nursing Science

Master’s degree in Nursing Science or Master’s degree in Public Health

Registration as a Nurse Educator with the South African Nursing Council

Registration

Be registered as a Nurse (PHC, General, Community, Psychiatric or and Midwife) and as a Nurse Educator with the South African Nursing Council

Teaching experience

Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience in a Higher Education or clinical setting

Clinical work experience

Minimum of two (2) years’ clinical work experience

Research

Evidence of research must be provided
